GPS fails when playing music, GPS signal drops

I have found a few threads that touch on this problem but no one offers anything in way of a solution.

I am using Android 2.3.5 on a Samsung Galaxy WiFi 5.0 , it doesn't have a cell radio at all, just WiFi. When I am listening to music stored on the player the GPS signal drops completely out. This happens with external speaker and headphones. This does NOT happen while using the FM radio.

Some have suggested the speaker system is interfering with the GPS but that can't be it, the radio works perfectly with GPS.

This is a strange problem and seems to be effecting multiple hardware platforms.

Please help somebody, anybody... Bueller? Bueller?

Thanks in advance, I will be watching this space closely and will post any answers I find.

Are you running a custom Rom? If not, you may want to consider it if possible. The issue, more than likely lies with the kernel you are using.

Sounds like a Rom/Kernel issue. More than likely a Kernel issue.

Sorry, but that's how it is,

You can try a different media player from the market. But I suspect, the kernel is the issue.

I'm brand new to the Android world. Are you saying that the issue lies with 2.3.5? That perhaps another build would solve the issue?

You seem to be well versed in this, what would you do? Using GPS tracking is important to me for working out and obviously listening to music or a podcast while doing so is also important - one of the big reasons why I have the device in the first place.

I'm going to experiment with some 'small footprint' media players to see if there is some issue with sharing resources.

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Update; it appears for now that I've found a solution. I tried a few media players without any luck. Then I tried Winamp and it seems to work fine.

So for now, Winamp solves the GPS issue.

Great!!!

I wouldn't say I'm "well versed" in all this, but what I've found through flashing custom Roms and Kernels, is that sometimes you run across these things, and typically, I find the issue in the Rom/Kernel. Usually I flash a different version kernel and sometimes it goes away.

Like the issue on my A501. Plug in headphones, and sound still plays through speakers :D Not all the time mind you.

I would just consider it a small glitch, but your working now, so better to leave things well enough ;)
