GPS issues

Actually I hope it's software. Hardware would mean that after warranty is up you're SOL. Software means there's a potential fix. I call BS on LP causing it though, there are numerous threads about GPS issues pre LP.

Unless of course the hardware fix is easy like a lose connection...
I am most certain it is LL update related for mine, cuz like I said, my N4 was working perfectly before. Somehow after the update, the internal GPS no longer works, resulting in "Searching for GPS" and "GPS signal lost". Don't know why others don't have the same issue, maybe mine was part of a bad batch?

Others have had the issue, but it isn't a wide spread issue. The other thing, since you have extra phones, this is what I would do.

Send back the warranty phone, call Samsung, send them the phone or phones, having the issue. The will remove the software, which is better than a reflash and then install the software back. They will also check everything in your phone, top to bottom.

Many times removing the software instead of reflashing, fixes it. Also if you have a bad motherboard or something like that, they will correct it.

I 100% would do that with having an extra phone to use while they have my phone, not get a warranty replacement that is a refurb or used phone.

Hmmm, sounds like a good idea. With the risk of sounding stupid, how can one tell if the warranty device is a refurbished one? And even if it is a refurbished one, is it not good? I mean, would it break down in the near future?

ALL warranty devices are either refurbished or phones that were bought and returned for some reason. They are never new devices.

You never know when you get a warranty exchange. The ONLY thing that would stop me from sending a phone to Samsung is not having an extra phone. I wouldn't think twice about it. Call them and they will send you a prepaid shipping label.

Update: in case if anyone who is interested in knowing how a TMobile exchange warranty works, mine came in 3 days ago, only the phone itself, no back cover, battery, Spen, and not even any accessories. They want you to keep them with the exchanged phone. The slot for the battery does say "refurbished". Anyway, the refurbished phone looks awesome, I guess I got lucky, looks brand new, no scratches. Because of all the inconvenience and tempered glass replacement on my original Note, they gave me a $50 credit. I immediately updated it from KK to LL, and GPS works perfectly! I am in love with my Note 4 all over again. Thanks to everyone for helping!

Don't remember which one because I haven't had the issue in a while but it was one of these 2 apps that when my GPS won't lock quickly I run the app and it solves the problem. I'm pretty sure it's GPS test but it might be the other. Like I said, it's been a while since I've needed to calibrate my GPS.

Ok, for an update on a t-mobile Note 4. I have a T-Mobile Note 4 running 5.1.1. I've tried many methods to fix this GPS lock issue.

- From deleting cache and data for the maps app
- Taking off the phone cover and even took off all the screws and released the upper left hook shape plastic piece in the area of where the GPS hardware would be located and when removed you'll see two bronze colored prongs that I decided to curve/bend upwards in case the contact it was needing to make on that plastic piece wasn't the best. Then screwed in all screws tightly again.
- Going into the boot menu and wiping cache that way.
- Installing a couple of GPS fix apps from the playstore.
- Pushing, bending, squeezing all sides and internals pieces.
- Removing the micro sd card, I didn't bother with the sim card, and putting it back in.
- Thee ONLY method that worked for me was to install an app from the playstore called "TopNTP 1.1". I've read posts where they say the phone needs to be rooted. Well, my phone is NOT rooted and once installed and you configure the setup like I will mention, you click install, I then just wanted to reboot after the install of the config file, I had GPS lock in a matter of seconds. So the configuration I used once the app was installed: I'll list the setup that will represent the letter "Z", when making these configuration changes to have installed. "North America", "United States", "Generic", "Tmobile". Then clicked on "Install" from the bottom of the screen. And after that is when I rebooted just for my own personal preference.

There are a couple of other methods I have not tried but the last method, worked like a charm and like I stated, my phone is not rooted and my GPS had not worked prior to the install of the configuration change that is made from that "TopNTP 1.1" app from the playstore.

Good luck to all and hope that method will work for others like it has for my phone.
