GPS on SD card

The GPS system in my Motor home has an Android 4.4 Kitkat o/s but does not easily receive WiFI so I need to install apps to SD card..
What I want to do is using my Sony Smartphone with 5.1.1 o/s install the app plus maps.
I have read that using B1 file manager I can create on the SD card a partition that is read by the device as being internal memory.
My question for you learned people is what I propose doable

Welcome to the forums. I am not sure this will work. I think this is the first time I have come across a situation like this. You could very well tey it. If it doesn't work you would only be out the time and the card.
