GPS Problems

The thing about turning off and on gps while in the app did not work for me.

just got out of chat with samsung. the lady had me force stop my map apps and clear their cache. it APPEARS to be working fine now but i won't be entirely sure until i give it a shot next time i'm driving. its worth a shot though.

Did it, didn't work.

I had exactly the same issue and, after many trials, I found a solution: uninstalling Yahoo Weather fixed the issue. Now the GPS works as it should.

I don't even have it installed, so...

I started a thread on this, but an (kind of) glad I'm not the only one with the issue. I'm with AT&T btw, someone asked.

I've had this same exact problem. But as of late or seems to aceess the gps every one to two min!

I've had the Charge and currently the S3, neither would lock onto GPS quickly. It would take upwards of 10 minutes (even outside by the beach with no buildings nearby). Once in a long while I'd get it to lock onto a GPS signal within a minute, but that is rare. I also had a Rezound and currently Droid Razr (for work). Both would lock on within a few seconds - all the time. I'm convinced it's some kind of issue (hardware/software, whatever) with Samsung phones. All these phones are/were on Verizon. I was looking at possibly getting the S4, but having read about these GPS problems. I have to say I will be looking for something else now. For this reason alone, I'm going to stay away from Samsung phones. Which is a shame since I love nearly everything else about them. Perhaps I'll be getting the HTC One or the X phone. One thing is for sure, I want a phone with a stable and reliable GPS.

I have the same problems with the Galaxy S3 and have been through 6 replacement phones with zero relief. I am convinced that every S3 has this problem and if a user is not experiencing currently this problem they eventually will. Verizon and Samsung simply play dumb every time you call them about it making you prove to them that the problem exists and providing not satisfaction. I was about to give up and upgrade to the S4 on my own dime until I read this thread. I have tried all the "fixes" on the internet i.e. tightening the screws, clearing the AGPS data, etc but nothing has worked although it might seem to work for a while because the problem itself is intermittent.

A side from ripping of their customers this is an issue which can lead to many frustrated drivers thus adding a danger factor.

Somebody really needs to sued over this.

Uninstalling Yahoo Weather also fixed the GPS problem I was having with my Samsung Galaxy S4 as described by others. Thanks for the tip.

Uninstalling Yahoo Weather worked for me also. Had just installed it last night and the problem started this morning. Thought at first it might have been the new google maps app but the problem was also there with Runkeeper

I had this same frustration GPS problem. I did not have Yahoo Weather installed, but I have A LOT of other location-based apps that use the GPS.
I *think* I fixed it -- so far, so good, at least -- by doing this:
* I opened the GPS Status app to see if the device was finding any satellites. After 30 seconds or so, no.
* So I opened the app manager and started going through all the running apps that use location.
* I stopped one app, went back to GPS Status to check the sats -- no location found after 20-30 seconds.
* So I went back to the app manager, stopped one more running app that uses location, then back to GPS Status to check the sats.
* ...and so on, until finally I stopped a running app (GeoNotes, as it turned out), and now I'm instantly finding to 10-20 sats, and not losing the signals (not yet, at least).
So the lesson is that you could have one or more buggy apps installed that are messing with the GPS on your device somehow. Go through them one by one -- quit app, check status, quit another app, check status...until you get sat signals from 22k miles above you.

So this really helped me out on the galaxy s4, I unchecked the box "enable location" in the stock web browser that came with the jellybean OS , now the GPS goes on when i need it an it doesn't take more than a 5 secs to 'lock on' to the satellite, hope that helps
again open the stock web browser, go to settings > content settings an make sure enable location is unchecked
samsung galaxy s4

This was one of my biggest complaints with the Fascinate (which led me to ditch to Apple temporarily) ... so it's definitely a Samsung problem. Though it doesn't seem to be as bad on my s4.

Sent from my Galaxy S4 via the AC Forums app

I had a really strange problem, obviously a bug in Samsung software. GPS through google maps worked, but none of my apps could connect to GPS. All GPS/location settings enabled.

i tried everything on this thread, with no luck.

followed your method of force stop + clear cache of apps one by one to determine the bugged one/s

the app which did it for me was: blurbcheckout a pre installed app which doesn't even have gps go figure

works perfectly for now....
(touches wood)

Thanks Ima Gyrau for the info. I was not connecting to the satellite for navigation or maps. The only work around I found before was to use google maps through the web browser. This is much better, now the phone works as it should.

Hi...I think I found a fix...umm I have the same problem and I don't have yahoo weather.. it's because i didn't accept the terms and agreements for google maps or something. All you have to do is open google maps app>then press the back button until it leaves the app> then open google maps again and that's when I got the blip to accept the terms and conditions... then it worked right away lol
