Grandfathered unlimited data plans?

I've been payin unlimited for about a year now and using about 100 MBs a month apparently. 30 dollars didn't seem like a big deal at the time and I wasn't sure how much i would use. My phone is also 3G and I don't use data as much because of functionality (Palm Pre Plus). Looks like that is about to pay off.

Nope, I upgraded from the Exilim phone with unlimited data and they would not let me keep that plan. The guy next to me in line had an older Droid with the unlimited plan and he got to keep it. I am a little disappointed.

Is the Exilim phone considered a smartphone or a multimedia phone? They had a category of devices that got unlimited data for around $10-15 / month that was different from smartphone category - the devices tended to use a lot less data overall so they got a break on costs. I personally use a lot less data than most - but I work out of my house and have wifi for virtually 90% of the time.

i have unlimited grandfathered in and they let me keep it.

considered going to the 30 dollar for 4GB plan... but i get too close to the 4GB's to do it. i'd go over too often, especially now that i'm on 4G.

now if they'd let me save some money by cutting my archaic 450 monthly minutes in half i'd be happy as the proverbial pig in $h!t

Just picked mine up, zero issues with being grandfathered in. If they lose the grandfathering, I might just start buying phones at full retail, even though I don't think I've ever gone past 2 gigs.

I supposedly was grandfathered in with unlimited data. However, when I sign into "My Verizon" it shows my data usage out of 4 GB. Does it show this (4GB) by default when unlimited? Did anyone with an unlimited data plan actually sign in and verify their data with My Verizon after activating the Galaxy Nexus? I do not want to jump the gun and call Verizon since it just shows 4 GB, or should it show "unlimited" or something of the sort?

I have a new GN and I have an Unlimited Plan.

I feel like im a friend of Bill W. saying that.

Question to you all...

I used to have the $30 unlimited data package but bumped it down to the old $15 150 MB plan because I was using barely any data on my blackberry. Could I call Verizon CS up and ask them to grandfather me back to the unlimited plan or I am automatically ineligible because I changed it a while back?

Also random question about android (this will be my first one)...will the phone automatically use wifi for data if it's available or is that determined by each individual app?

You have to actively turn on the wifi when you want it. Not very difficult, there is a widget by default that you can turn it on or off after saving your wifi connection.

You may be able to get them to request it, but it takes a day or 2 to get it accepted. Also, if you leave wifi on all the time then whenever you are in an already known wifi access point it will automatically connect to wifi.

I had an OG droid with unlimited data but then had to switch to a dumb phone for a couple of months after the droid broke down and they took off the data plan...does this mean that when they re-initiate my data i won't be able to go back to unlimited?

What do you mean by that? If you buy a VZW phone at retail, your not subject to any contract/paying for data/etc? Sorry, just trying to understand. I current have a Bionic that is still having the 3G/4G data signal issue that has driven me crazy since late October. I'm thinking of getting the GN, but paying $650 is a sh!tload of money for a phone! I guess it's time to tell everyone to get me VZW gift cards out the ying yang for Christmas... LOL..
But seriously, I've heard people say just cancel and pay the $350 EFT and then re-up under a new contract and you save like $150 bucks or around there. But my wife is on my plan (Family plan) and I think that would kill her off the contract too, plus I probably lose my cell# and lose my grandfathered unlimited data??

Just wondering that IF I paid full retail, what's the benefit like you mention? Thanks! :)

If you buy off contract then you don't sign a new contract so everything on your account stays the same.
