Gray, flickering, terrible screen? Share your story in here.

Are you a Google employee or just someone who feels that anyone with a problem should STFU rather than try and see if others are having similar issues? Yeesh.

Google is a GIANT corporation with 55,000 employees, stock trading at $611 per share, and a market cap of $199 billion, seeking to compete with Amazon and Apple. They aren't a little mom & pop shop with limited resources who got in over their heads because they didn't have enough cash on hand. They are a Goliath seeking to battle other Goliaths and if they didn't think to lay on enough staff then that's their own effing fault and still no excuse for leaving a customer with a defective product sitting in the dark for FOUR DAMN DAYS and a high likelihood of having to chase after them to get things fixed.

Have you ever had to deal with Amazon with a problem? I have; they have multiple contact avenues that are easy to find and they are very fast to respond. I don't think I've ever gone more than a few hours before someone replies and they've always been eager to fix errors or adjust things. I had a snafu with a delivery that was supposed to come on a Saturday that I'd paid extra for and when I realized it wasn't coming, I wrote to complain and they immediately refunded the Saturday delivery charge (well, duh), but when I groused about the inconvenience this had caused, they offered me a $10 credit.

While it was a puny token, it was still something. Then I discovered by accident that I suddenly had $10 credits in all of Amazon's digital store - MP3, Instant Video, Software, and Kindle - so it appears that while they said I was getting $10, they gave me $50 spread all over in $10 blocks. Do you know how quickly my annoyance evaporated over the botched delivery? Do you know why I'm happy to shell out $79 per year for Prime? BECAUSE AMAZON DELIVERS GREAT PRICES AND SERVICE!!!

What has Google Play done for me? Charge me for shipping that got me my device days after people who didn't pre-order; delivered a defective product; made it almost impossible to find support and then made me wait hours on hold in order to get a person who can do nothing but pass the buck onto someone else who will do nothing, leaving me with money and time wasted and nothing to show for it. What do you think the odds are that I will EVER buy something from their store again? What do you think I'll say if someone asks if they should buy from the Google Play store?

You may think I'm too hard on po' widdle Googoo. I think I'm being quite calm considering how poorly they've handled my case, because I know that if they don't rapidly realize just how destructive poor service is for a commercial endeavor, they'll fail.

Actually you're not being calm. If you were then you wouldn't have gone into other threads besides this one and started up. My point is 100% correct - venting out on a forum does nothing to make the issue resolve itself.

Did Google muff it up here? Yep. Big or small corporation it is pretty obvious they badly messed up on staffing and indeed on having sufficient stock on hand. That seems to be a persistent issue across the Android spectrum - the OEMs and retailers never have enough stock in the pipeline at launch and typically have their sales/support units understaffed. Remember the ASUS fiasco on the Transformer Prime "launch"?

So I don't work for Google; I just think that people venting all over forums does nothing but give onlookers false impressions. Now if the forum were actually owned by Google then I would say vent away - at least then it would go directly to the source.

Google ATM reminds me of my GF. Neurotic and flaky but so good in bed you always forgive her the next morning. That's an analogy people, I don't bang my Google products.

Mine flickers lightly between a range of (by estimation) 4% brightness level randomly, but often. If that makes sense. It only seems to do this when brightness is set to the very lowest and with auto brightness OFF.

When I set it to lowest at night for reading it does it. If I jack it up to around 20% and continue it goes away. This makes me think it might be a software or driver issue within this build for the N7.

I realize this. There are problems with most new devices of any kind. Just seems to me that this product launch is suffering far more than the norm. I look at not only androidcentral, I look at all venues, it's what I do, some people read politics I like to read about technology. What I was trying to get at, is how complacent people are about spending 200+ and seeing it as ok simply because it's their fave new toy. The entire launch of this product has been a joke and now to see this many issues, so soon after launch, not a good thing. The only good thing about this device thus far is the price point, beyond that I am not getting the warm fuzzies from any of it. I will probably look at this device again in the future after most of its kinks have been ironed out and Asus not rush the product out the production line before it was ready. They had no one else to compete against it right now, they could have taken a bit longer and produced a better product.

Agree completely. Whatever the actual numbers are, a large percentage of the tablets have SOME form of defect. Hell, even a reviewer (Chris Zeigler of the Verge) got a defective one that wouldn't charge that he mentioned on the podcast. I'm amazed reading these forums, that people are so willing to accept or live with some of these faults because it's a Nexus. Honestly, would anyone pay $200 for and live with a non-stock Android Huwaei tablet that had this many issues?

The verge is the worst tech review of all time. Ever. CNET is close.

My nexus 7 worked great for 13 days, then ghosting and pretty bad washout. The screen was great before. I see some of you think that the screen on your N7 is fair, but since my washout problems developed later, I can tell you that a properly working N7 screen is fantastic. Hopefully this is a problem that won't be seen in later shipments. It's a real shame that this tablet, with all the thought put into it has an issue with the screen like this. I am waiting on a replacement N7 from gamestop. I hope that all of us that have issues with this tablet will get a problem free replacement.

well once i was browsing aptoide and then my screen went black so i turned it off and on again (that usually works) and then i saw my screen VERY gray with the app and buttons a bit visible so i did it again and it was normal... is that bad? :-\

(i might have put this in the wrong forum, oopsies!)
