Great Article - Pixel Smartphones

There's this dream where Android fans want Google to release a direct iPhone competitor that will rival the iPhone in terms of brand power and market share.

This can't happen as long as Android is open for OEMs to make their own smartphones (with Google Play Services, of course).

I never liked the iPhone, but there are always 2 features I envy of them. camera and battery life. let's see how the nexus/pixel phone will do this year. I am hoping for ois and a faster camera this year. to me the camera was very good last year, just missing those 2 things. and hopefully we can finally have battery life that's on par with iPhone.

I didn't know that iPhones were known for great battery life... I thought it was the opposite, hence the wall hugger commercials a few years back.

I don't know, Samsung has done pretty well fending off all comers. Their woes with the Note 7 could provide Google with an opportunity to position itself as the iPhone alternative. A lot depends on marketing, if there's even going to be any. Remember when Samsung took off right after the S3 was released? A lot of that was relentless marketing -- the commercials with Big Head from Silicon Valley, etc.

I just moved from iPhone after using four of them over the years. For the first year to year and a half the iPhones are generally great on battery life. However they do tend to drop off significantly after that. I don't see that drop off as any different from any other battery, that's just how batteries work. It's hard to compare my 4.7" iPhone 6 to my OP3 when talking about battery life because the phones are so different in virtually every way. The processor on my OP3 certainly makes it seem much faster than the iPhone. The closed nature of the iPhone makes controlling battery life probably significantly easier than in the open environment of Android. That being said I use my OP3 more than I did my iPhone and therefore I charge it up to twice a day (generally when I get to 40% or so). My iPhone got less SOT and could go for up to two days between charges around it's mid-life point.
