grouping contacts / no search feature?

Ok, so I've got this way to long list of contacts that shows up when I click over to my phone. I've put some into groups but that doesn't seem to remove them from the original list and when I need a contact from the W's for example, I have to do the endless scroll thing.

There seems be no way to search for a contact. When I hit the search button I get a pop up window of tips that gives me some tips but it looks like you have to either know the contact's 3 digit phone exchange or search by selecting the numbers that have the letters in the name. Are those the only options?

You can start typing the contact name using the letters on the dialer. It should start filtering when you do that.

Edit: For example, open dialer and hit 9. Only contacts whose first or last names start with W, X, or Y are shown. You can then hit another letter to add to the filter, or start scrolling your subset list.

You can also do it by selecting "People" and then tapping the search button on the phone (or on the top right of the screen). You will get a search box that way.

i thought if u tap menu theres a search function?

to clarify, i meant if u hit menu when u're in the people/contact
