Having both the S5 and the G3 I must say the screen on the S5 is a lot better outside in the sun. The G3 has a nice crisp screen but is dimmer in auto mode and than the S5 and makes it difficult to see. The G3 screen makes it seem like I have sunglasses on all the time where as the S5 just seems brighter.

The S5 has the best display on any phone to date (although the Note 4 is supposed to be even better). It's not the brightest iirc, but at least more than the G3.

There's a lot of things that I like more on my G3 than my girlfriends S5 but the screen is not one of them. The S5 still imo has the best screen on any smartphone (until the note 4 comes out). And yes the S5 does get a lot brighter. Side by side at 50%, the S5 is far brighter.

I love my G3 but my wife the S5 and every time a see the screen I can't help but appreciate it. But then I remember how it runs touchwiz and the appreciation ends lol

The S5 does have a nice screen, and it is brighter then the G3. It's not better though, it's certainly not better with 1440p video content (provided you don't need ultra brightness).

People tend to be accustomed to ultra bright over saturated super colorful displays, which is fine, but anyone who's ever done some screen calibration (especially with home theater) will feel differently.

I don't use the stock launchers, I use Nova prime and have both setup the same. I'm a field tech and spend a lot of time in the car driving, the s5 is a lot easier to read while in the car. Had the S5 and got a deal on the G3 I couldn't pass up but now the wife said one has got to go. I agree, especially since I have a note 4 o order.

I was going to pick between the S5 and the G3, and the S5 seemed too bright and fake looking, so I went with the G3. Best always breaks down to taste in these types of comparisons anyway.

Yeah, the S5 is both brighter and more accurate than the G3. Aside from the resolution, the S5 is objectively better.

"Based on our extensive Lab tests and measurements, the Galaxy S5 is the Best performing Smartphone display that we have ever tested. It has a long list of new records for best Smartphone display performance including: Highest Brightness, Lowest Reflectance, Highest Color Accuracy, Infinite Contrast Ratio, Highest Contrast Rating in Ambient Light, and smallest Brightness Variation with Viewing Angle. The Galaxy S5 has raised the bar for top display performance up by another notch – an impressive achievement for OLED technology!"

For myself there isn't an amoled screen to date that I came handle. It just looks fake to me. Lcd just seems to have more true to life color representations.

I'm not knocking it, it's just a more enjoyable experience for me with LCD

You haven't used the S5 then :p
It is more accurate than any LCD or IPS display currently available.

I messed with it in the store but no, I've never owned one.

The note 4 looks like it'll have a to of the line screen but then again it IS Samsung lol

The same site I linked above says the Note is even better. So even though they use AMOLED, Samsung appears to be fixing their screens (sort of an understatement seeing as they're the best now :p)

Edit: I see the link and quote from DisplayMate has already been posted.

Now if they would only do an articular for the LG G3. I reactivated my S5 for the day and what a difference outside and in the car for viewing. Love the G3 camera, form factor, and screen indoors. But the S5 is a lot nicer outside.

S5 Screen a plus
Samsung Apps and touchwiz, I just can't stand them. The fingerprint sensor was One swipe, two swipes, three swipes 4, then enter your code. Returned mine after one week. I have had my G3 for a week now, I was intending to get a 6+ and return the G3, ordered a 6+ case from Amazon that was on special. Showed up yesterday, my g3 sits inside it, width is the same but the case is 1/2 inch longer than the g3 keeping the G3. My first LG phone, how are they in supporting software updates after some time passes?

I read that article at the time it came out and really liked it. However I've since read that they are pretty particular about which screens they test, and only occasionally do tests at all. So far this year the only phones they've tested are the S5 and now the Note 4. I guess they haven't tested screens in recent iPhones, HTC or even LG phones.
It's easy to have the best display when the sample size is small and the top competition didn't get to even compete. On the other side I've heard that Anand Tech has tested a much wider range of devices

I went to a store today to really give the S5 screen a chance against my G3. I put them both to max brightness, opened a random website, and I found the whites on the S5 to be more yellow looking at both phones side by side. I had previously compared the screens with the S5 wallpapers, and I liked the G3 looking less bright.

Whatever, with my uncalibrated eye, I could care less about nits and all that, and I'll just trust my eyes. I still like the G3 better.

@sectime: Regarding LG updates, I've had three since I bought a couple of months ago, D855-EUR, unlocked.

My wife had the GS5 and I've noticed how nice the screen looks. But you're right, I also noticed how dingy and yellow the whites looked.
