GS3 Release Date in US by AT&T

Come on Samsung...give us a release date already!!! I'm waiting for the SG3 and waiting for the Asus 700 tablet. Neither have a release date yet! They'll probably be released the same day and I'll have new gadget syndrome (causes one to loose sleep, miss work and isolate) lol.

My question is how there are "unlocked" AT&T available on Amazon when AT&T has not even announced a release date for "locked" devices. Those are supposedly being delivered on June 1st with pre-orders available now. That's a bit unfair making it longer for us that pre-order through AT&T stores.

I think people are misunderstanding June 1st release with the delivery date from Amazon on the international version. Its unlocked and will work on T-Mobile and att

Why would anyone in the US want the unlocked version as only the locked version will have LTE? Maybe just to be one of the first to have an SG3 with more money to spend than they know what to do with? Samsung could put all of the rumors and speculation to rest by simply announcing a date.

Different processor, earlier release date & no carrier bloat ware would be the only reason I can think of. But would be curious to know as well what other advantages the International version has vs the carrier subsidized.

A lot of people buy the unlocked version for many reasons. I get a lot of unlocked phones and use them on ATT.

One of the biggest reasons people buy the unlocked version is 99% of the time updates come first to the unlocked versions. Branded versions sometimes wait months for their updates.

Not having ability to have LTE would be good reason to wait. Rooting can remove carrier bloat. Without LTE, how would the SG3 be any different from the SG2 except for the quadcore processor?

The skyrocket (a SGSII) has LTE. ATT LTE is still being rolled out and not available in a lot of places. The international versions will get HSPA+ data speeds (6-8 mbps up, 1-2 down) on the ATT network which is enough for most people especially if they use wifi at home and work. If you are going to pay off contract anyways, the international versions become attractive, especially with the quad core exynos processor.

They have no carrier bloatware and receive updates very fast. I have an International and ATT galaxy note and the International version has been updated 5 times including official ICS 4.0.3.

IMO, it is totally a personal preference to pay such a premium for a device whose processor cannot be on LTE. AT&T LTE is limited for sure but will not always be the case. Having a faster processor on HSPA+ is how much faster than dualcore on LTE?

Certainly not much difference in my opinion but some people get pretty adamant on their processor views...I agree on LTE. I live in a strong LTE market so my International GNote gets little up time as a phone. I use it on wifi often when traveling for netflix, browsing and email etc. I have a Mugen 4500 mAh battery with it so it goes forever!

Honestly? The only thing keeping me from the International version is the home button. I don't get why Samsung has to do that? The capacitive buttons look better and are more practical. It's nice ownin a non carrier banded phone but I really want LTE and can't investing that much unsibsidized for a 3G HSPA+ device.

Of course I Don't know how his phone really differs from the GSII with a dual core processor.

Interesting since it appears you own an iphone. The International version also has two capacitive buttons on each side of the home button for additional functions but I must agree with you. I like the smooth non mechanical button look better although in actual use I have not noticed and advantage or disadvantage in actual usage.

I think a lot of people would like to have the physical home button. I know I would. It can come in handy lots of times.
Even better though, I would love to see a phone come out with an optical trackball like the dinc has. Every time I use my wife's it makes me wish my DROIDX had one.

My 9810 and 9900 RIM devices have optical track pads which make navigation more precise but I have noticed that Android devices are so versatile why have a trackpad.

While I agree that all capacitive buttons would be my choice as well. But there has been nothing to indicate anything other than the button as of yet.

Just Flash It !!!

Following their history, I'm sure they'll do 4 capacitive buttons. While I do have an iPhone, I have grown to dislike the home button. I dislike it because over they become loose and wobbly.

Here's my pros and cons list to owning the International version versus AT&T's model.

International: Pros

No carrier bloat, customization.
Home Button (could be a con for some)
Fast updates
Awesome development support

International: Cons

Expensive (expansys usa wants $694 for the 16GB version)
-HSPA+ 21 ( Lets be real, on AT&T the best we'll see if we're luck is maybe 9-10 down.
Might take a while to get the correct APN's to work with AT&T.
--Not optimized for AT&T's network

AT&T's Version Pros

-LTE
Capacitive buttons (maybe)
--No commitment pricing is cheaper

AT&T Version Cons

Lack of updates, maybe the first update will come 3-4 months after release and that'll pretty much be it.
--Development Support
-Carrier Bloat, customization
-AT&T will take away any way to TURN OFF 3G AND 4G LTE.
