Just got my s3..smart stay doesn't work at all for me..the eyes comes on but screen blackout almost immediately...I learnt to just enjoy the phone without smart stay....

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Android Central Forums

Same here, and that was one of the reasons I got this instead of the evo lte.

what i have noticed is this folks...when you're looking at the screen and the eye comes on, move the phone and try to get the front camera see your eyes...the action of moving the phone changes the view being seen by the camera

Thanks. That just worked for me! I'd given up. Thought combination of dark complexion & glasses made SmartStay a lost cause!

It's not totally reliable but it seems to work more often than not. I just don't realize when it is working because the screen will stay on without causing interruption. I think how well it works may depend on how you hold the phone, e.g. how close it is to your face, the angle, the lighting, etc.

When I use Smart Stay in decent lighting it seems to work. However one time I tried using it in pretty dim conditions while I was wearing (clear) glasses and it didn't work.

I agree that it does not work well in low light conditions and in certain but does work in email and Web browsing. It may also have to with the distance from the device as the FCC is less than 2 MP and their is no LED illumination.
