GSM Arena: Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. HTC One --FULL REVIEW--

So I should trust a website that clearly didn't take all the photos at the same time, in many cases on different days, sometimes even in a different location or on a different table...
The indoor shots were heavily lit by sunlight, the low light shots were also exposed with sunlight instead of with tungsten bulbs.

And here is the best part, the author doesn't even say that the One takes a better photo.

Again, I'll stick with reviews that are a little better then this. Willing to try another website?

What website declares a winner besides pocket now?

Saw this the other day, wow I hate this review lol. My thoughts as far as I got:

Introduction:
"Higher clock speed chipset"
- Exact same in 3/4 of the world. When comparing Snapdragon and Exynos clock speed is absolutely meaningless, there different chips. facepalm.
"Smaller, thinner, lighter"
- Almost identical in every dimension, but this is a selling point for the GS4 and the aluminum uniboidy HTC One isn't?

Hardware:
Tie?????????? I'm done. Will never read GSM Arena again.

what does this have to do with the GSM Arena review?

How can they do a valid comparison at this point? I didn't think anyone had an S4 for reviews so things like battery life would just be a guess.
They received a model for reviews before it hit the shelves. I think the battery comparison looks pretty accurate:

It can be easy to misconstrue tone in the written word, but your post seems a bit smug... ;)
...
Going back to my initial comment, I find it interesting that the tone I perceived in your post made it seem like the GS4 wiped the floor with the One.
...
The one with my name on it will be the One. And I'm pretty sure I will be very happy with it. Probably just about as happy as you will be with the GS4 when you get it. Maybe (just maybe) we'll both end up winners...

That post was so beautifully written it gave me goosebumps. You are a keen observer, because I am in favour of the S4! It suits me personally more than the HTC One, but with an answer like yours, I just can't argue. I think I'm tearing up. :'( Maybe I need to spend some more time on the HTC forums...

No mention of the S4 but OK.

You asked for a comparison with the iphone or the s4.

The majority of the reviews I've read state that the One's camera is comparable to what's currently out there. Call it overhyped if you will, but you'll never see a company release a device and tell people it's "alright" or "as good" as its competitors.

OK.

- They're not comparing Snapdragon and Exynos, they're comparing the chip in the One to the chip in the S4. They both have the same chip. 1.9 GHz is more than 1.7, hardly means anything in real world use but they're not wrong.

- Samsung managed to keep the dimensions the same for the most part, fit more screen onto the phone, increase the battery, and bring the weight of the phone to the levels of the iPhone 5. I'd say that deserves at least just a little bit praise in engineering regardless of it's materials, and that's what GSM was talking about. They even say the One destroys the S4 in design. If you want to be up in arms about that then fine it's somewhat understandable, although rather petty because I hope you buy a phone because of more than just how it looks. Believe it or not some people prefer SD cards and removable batteries, it's a very important feature for some. Especially since it looks like you can't even get to the battery of the One without demolishing the phone.

I don't understand why both phones can't be appreciated and people just can't be happy. Both the S4 and the One are going to be hot sellers and Apple won't have a legit answer for neither one, that makes me happy.

Link: Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. HTC One: Army of two - GSMArena.com

Compares everything in detail, including:
  • Hardware comparison
  • Screen, battery life
  • User interface
  • Software extras, loudspeaker, audio quality
  • Synthetic benchmarks
  • Camera features
  • Still camera comparison
  • Video camera quality
  • Low-light camera performance

It's an excellent reference, don't you think?

So, will you be converting to the S4, or does the One suit all your needs?

P.S: Yep, I made the same thread in the GS4 section, but am also posting it here for referfence for the HTC One fans who wouldn't be caught dead on a *Samsung* thread.

So this makes how many times you've posted that link?

No worries, someone has to get the truth out there :)

That's only standby time, for a power user it won't matter. The HTC one is about the same for video etc but kicks the s4s arse for web browsing....

How long have you been using the S4,to make that comparison? Plus one is still running 4.1 while s4 is still running dev builds of 4.2.2 im sure browsing will improve with final builds or updates. the device is certainly hard ware capable

I'm sure that alot will improve with the One aswell with some updates. Both will be awesome devices but its still early to Even rely on these reviews.

I haven't used it ofcourse, I'm using the same webpage results you did to claim the endurance results.
And isn't it the samoled screens running white that cane the battery?

Please rephrase that question in not clear what you are asking.

Yeah the Review is good but I look at it as these results are not set in stone besides visual stuff. I think that HTC one will be a great device. I pointed out the review to dispel some of the certainty of the s4 limitatons that everyone talks about. Like everyone keeps talking about pentile when clearly there have been improvements and people should see for themselves before bashing.

Is it because I said cane? I mean the super amoled screen uses the battery quickly when mostly white, the question mark was for confirmation, My lumia was the same. I also think the gs4 looks awesome (my second choice android atm), just sticking up for the HTC one, there's a lot of HTC one bashing going on here.

Yeah the bashing on both sides is silly. I defend OLED tech because I develop it. I know what it can do at a technical stand point.

There are alot of problems with the understanding of how white OLED effects power, I won't get into that. But ill stick to explaining the old displays vs new. Old OLED displays use 3 color materials 2 fluorescent 1 phosphorescent. phosphorescent is 30% more efficient. ... The new displays use 2 phosphorescent and 1 fluorescent. Making these OLEDs 30% more efficient than of. When all 3 colors are phosphorescent you will see a 60% improvement over old.

Yep, that's what it said in the review, too;

Anyway, heavy users are unlikely to notice a difference - if you don't let your smartphone sit idly too often, you are going to get the same endurance with both of these smartphone.

At video playback, both phones do very well with times just over 10 hours. The Galaxy S4 has a 15 minute advantage, but just like in the call test the times are as good as equal.

The HTC One topped our web browsing chart by beating the Apple iPhone 5 by a hair. It's also the top droid in this test by about 50 minutes. The mostly white web pages took their toll on the Samsung Galaxy S4, but it still managed a very good time of 8 hours and 42 minutes.

;)

Huh? They dont declare a winner and it's clearly not the best camera in this comparo.
I don't need someone else to declare a winner for me. I'm a big boy. I make good money. I'm pretty smart. I can determin for myself. Post all of the shot, ALL OF THEM, and let me go from there. And make it easy for me to inquire about what settings were used for certain shots on a given device... wait - apparently I need some folks on AC to post their own photos and videos, in dedicated threads, from the different devices, in the forums. WAIT! We do that here already? SUH-WEET!!!
