Grand Theft Auto III has come out, and I'd like to try it...but itseems many are losing the refund window before they finish the 400MB data download. Anyone try this on the Touchpad? How does it work (some reviews are noting crashes on some devices)?

People don't want to register for another account - not sure why there is not a global user account across all of these sites (actually I do - it's to inflate user numbers).

Hmmm, GTA 3, tempting ... I've been reluctant to actually buy any Android apps as we are still in the 'Alpha' phase but I might just give this one a go.

(staggering recklessly off-topic) I see the CM team have been concentrating on the ICS port mostly, I like, I like ...

Quick sidebar--- Why not? It's free. How would they know how many members are part of a particular community if they didn't require separate registration?

Well they can tell that simply by you clicking on any of the sites - it just by getting us to register us seperately for each site, they can double or triple count us.

Getting back to the thread - is this easy to control? I was looking for a game for the Christmas break.

I can confirm it's working nicely, completely playable, and the controls are remarkably smooth considering it's a touchscreen. I find it runs considerably better at 1.5ghz (no complaints here), and there's a patch floating around right now that'll boost the graphics up to ipad-comparable.

The joystick pops down wherever you put your thumb, which is nice and comfortable (no searching for it, it just auto-centers to wherever you tap), and the other buttons are large enough to hit without issue. Driving is easy, looking around is easy, switching weapons is easy.

It's well thought out and the control scheme works far better than I would have assumed it could have.

There's also the option of mapping the whole thing to a sixaxis, but carrying around a freaking game controller sortof ruins the whole "casual gaming" aspect of picking up a touchpad and having some fun.

Anyway, I'd recommend it - although be warned, your memories of GTA3 are going to be fonder than the actual experience. I forgot just how heavyhanded and ridiculous this game is :). A few shots from the game on the touchpad:

Cool, that takes me back, I've still got a PC copy somewhere.

Amazing it can be done in tablet form

I just bought the game earlier and played it for a while, it runs really well on my TP running xron a3. I can't figure out how to properly close the game tho, I must be slow. Is there a way to get back to the games main menu from in-game? or is there some other way to close it? I just hit the home key and force stopped it for now.

I've been wondering that same thing. I want to switch back and forth between the control schemes to see which I prefer but, unless there's something I don't know, you have to kill the app to get it to restart in the menu.

You have to double-click on the back button to get to the main menu. It's kind of tricky, sometimes you have to do it a time or two...
