[GUIDE] Easily Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery to your Acer Iconia A500

Re: [GUIDE] Easily Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery to your

Fumetsu,

I followed your instructions and everything worked great. Thank you.

I read today that 3.1 for Acer a500 was leaked today and I thought I would go ahead and ask:
Have you tried it out yet? And if so and you like it, how do I switch to it?:D

Re: [GUIDE] Easily Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery to your

The 3.1 leak was the Chinese version and Ive read of some issues with it. Im sticking with Virtuous Picasso as it seems to be the fastest and cleanest looking ROM available so far and the Dev is quick with updates. I think the Asus base is more stable, from what Ive read. Though we do unfortunately lose Dolby Mobile and I dont think it can be added with the Asus base.

Thanks for the help! Quick question. I used my microsd card from my OG droid to root my moms Acer A500. Now that its rooted can I take it out or do I need to get her one to keep in there? I installed the CM and installed that recovery by Thor. Downloading the virtuous p rom now but not sure what to do when its finished. Go back into Acer recovery? Please help!

Once youve downloaded the ROM, move the zip onto your SD card and choose Flash Zip From SD Card. Its best to have the zip in the root of your SD card and it is safe to remove once youve flashed.

Heres the guide to go back to stock: Tutorial: Return to Stock

Ill post a step by step once I can test/verify, but Im having too much fun with Virtuous Galaxy (based on Galaxy Tab 10.1 and with some awesome Touchwiz elements). :-)

Thanks Fume, couldn't follow the tutorial

Re: [GUIDE] Easily Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery to your

How about making a backup of the existing Rom? Before a flash to a new one.
Is it easy to do.

Very easy:
Boot into Clockwork - power off - then - power on with volume closest to the power button held..
When the "booting recovery kernel" text shows up you can let go.
You will see the CWM menu
Navigate down to the backup restore using the vol keys
Select using the power button
Select the Full backup option -
Navigate down to select 'yes'..

It will take a few minutes.. presto. done..

Reboot or flash new ROM..

Re: [GUIDE] Easily Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery to your

I can't get my Iconia to root using these instructions. When I select "root device" it says "rooting" for hours and hours (I let it sit overnight) and doesn't finish or reboot. i have unknown sources selected, usb debug enabled and a formatted microSD card inserted. In step 2 of your instructions you say I should see "external storage" with available space, but there is the "External SD card" section and the "External USB Storage" section under the storage menu under settings. Did you mean "External SD card" should say there's available space? If so mine is good. It says unavailable under "External USB storage". I downloaded that apk file from my laptop and installed on the tablet's hard drive, not to the SD card, is this ok? I tried putting the apk file on the card but it won't show up when I try to open it on the tablet. Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey I just got my a500 this week. upon opening it i was asked to update it to 3.1 now i am having problems trying to root it. Does gingerbreak work on honeycomb 3.1? if so what am i doing wrong? i put the apk on my sd card then powered it up in recovery but when i go to gingerbreak it just says loading n doesnt do anything else loads for hours if i let it.

Re: [GUIDE] Easily Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery to your

This was for the original 3.0 build - I do not believe Gingerbreak works on the newer 3.1 builds. I will be posting an update soon although it is hard for me to try since I am already rooted and running custom ROMs.

I believe there are market apps that will allow you to root using an app - without using Gingerbreak.

Stay tuned!
