rooting 2.1 update 1?

hey guys. First off you ALL rock!!! Secondly i have a hero that has 2.1 update 1. does that mean i can't root anymore. My phone got sent in through best buy to get fixed and when i got it back it was wiped and had 2.1 update 1 on it. is there anyway to root this and if not is there a way to roll back to 1.5 or before the update to be able to root?

Even if you update, it will still say 2.1 Update-1. Thats what every 2.1 phone now runs. What is your software version? That will tell us more.

I'm running 2.1 update 1, software 2.27.651.6, build 2.27.651.6 CL169236 release keys

I am coming from a pre that was rooted and I am comfortable with command prompts. Please tell me I can root this Hero it is stock from Sprint just purchased last week.

Edit: nevermind I found out I need to run Ruu to get it back to .5 from .6

Yes, and rooting is great, you can install whichever ROM you want to, pretty cool, I already moved from 2.1 to 2.2, minor things to work out, but runs very good and fast.

So I'm gonna root my buddys hero that has the latest ota updates. What do I need too do? Run an ruu to roll back...? You can't roll back with ruus on the evo, so I didn't think a hero would be any different...

yeah things are a little different for the hero.Do like the post says grab the ruu from post2 then run it you will be back at build version .5 then you can follow the guide on post1 of the link to root it.

Thanks beezy I'll be doing this on saturday. I wanna make him stay on a stock a few days so he can fully appreciate the increase in speed and the benefits of rooting altogether.

I'm gonna throw cm6 on there and blow his mind. Lol.
