[GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phone!!

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

lordbah - my bad, I missed that you had the 3800 extended battery and not the 2100 extended battery. I have nothing to contribute to your dilemma.

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

FYI
I don't know whether anyone else is fool enough to try this with the 3800 so I'll document it just in case. I ripped it all out again, removed that felt or whatever it is, put it all back together - still can't keep the cover closed over the big battery. Well, I can, with tight enough rubber bands, but that's no good.

How do you guys get the tip of the copper wire sturdy enough to hold and keep the contact alive? I am having to keep undoing and doing the back cover because of this

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

The small piece of foam that was cut in half and placed under the foil on the body is usually all that is needed for the standard battery. The OP has also suggested using 3M Auto accent tape, which is a little bit thicker.

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

After today's franco kernel updater update, My phone is now charging over touchstone correctly. Woohoo!!! USB or AC rate.

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

Interesting - I have 3 Touchstones, using them with the same charger and cable for this test, one charges the phone, the others don't. A little fiddling shows me that the other two need the phone to be pushed up higher on the TS in order to charge - the weight of the phone makes it slide down a little. The one it works on is the one I used to line up the magnets. Should I remove two of the lower magnets from the cover? Just try to increase friction on the TS surface?

I had a similar issue, sometimes it would charge, sometimes it wouldnt, found if I gently pushed the phone up a little it worked... so I shifted the magnets a little and it works everytime...

I suggest trying the phone on the one that works, and pushing it up just a little to see if it still works (the same distance required to make the other two work) if it does, then shift your magnets and it should work on all three....

BTW, having this in my car is the coolest thing ever.... just need to get a bumper case now...

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

Started having problems today. Everything was working fine for the first couple months. I flashed the new trinity kernel yesterday and it was still working fine. But as of this afternoon, my phone won't charge. I checked the voltage on the door and it was fine. I checked the continuity of the strips on the inside of the phone and it was fine. Any ideas? Could it be kernel related?

EDIT: Must be kernel related. The phone charges when I disable fast charge. Any JB kernels to recommend?

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

Not sure. Fast charge works fine with the kernel used with CNA JB ROM. I'd like to know myself because I'm using CM10 and was thinking about the Trinity kernel. Franco's maybe?

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

I apologize. I was using the latest Popcorn Kernel. I'm going to try Trinity's.

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

My issue doesn't seem to be kernel related at all. If I disable fast charge, the phone will say it is charging on the dock but it seems to go in and out of charging mode. On fast charge, I get nothing.

I'm probably going to go back and redo everything since I am getting good multimeter readings on all my connections unless anyone else has experienced this issue and has any advice.

EDIT: If I'm getting 5.6v on my copper strips on the cover, is it safe to say that there is nothing wrong with my battery door assembly and that the issue is with the connection between the two or the phone assembly?

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

Sounds like it. I had to redo my door once for this reason. Just sort of stopped working after some time. It's been working great ever since.

Were you getting the correct voltage reading on the door?

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

Hey, I just wanted to add my two cents:
I added this mod to the GSM Galaxy Nexus with the standard battery. I mounted the magnets to the battery cover after dremeling it down a little.
But I stuck the induction loop right onto the battery. It is a little harder to line it up the first time, but it allows you to take the cover off without wires hanging off.

Also I opened the touchstone device and added solder to pins 2&3 so that that touchstone would always charge from a USB cable plugged into any car or computer usb port.

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

I have a GSM Gnex with standard battery and standard cover, and was never able to get the cover fully seated. It tended to pop open, especially when using the stronger magnets. I then went the route of putting the coil in an aftermarket case, which works great, but I really miss my 'naked' phone.

Question: Is there any way to just get the extended battery cover for the GSM phone *without* the battery? I'd like to keep the std battery to ensure I have enough room for the coil. I've looked all over but can't seem to find just the cover without the extended battery.

Just buy it with the battery and sell the battery or keep it as a spare. I had a similar problem a while back and solved it with a new battery door. I think the tabs were a little worn. The new door worked great.

By the way, it was an VZW extended battery door. I found a replacement (without battery) on Amazon. Try looking there. I'm sure someone sells the GSM door you are looking for.

I actually ended up doing this and it worked great. I was actually able to use the extended battery with the new cover with no issues and a nice tight fit. I got the GSM Extended battery here (the GSM one is much harder to find in the USA):

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

My phone will not charge with this. I took it apart and tested voltage at each stage and every spot shows 5.66 volts. I didn't fold the copper over so the pogo pins still work, so I can't test that. Some times I get the inconsistent buzzing which is the power going in and out, but if I just adjust the placement of the phone it will do the consistent buzz. I'm on LeanKernal without fastchage on.

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

I just did this, too -- the guitar picks hadn't arrived yet, so I did the 'credit card' approach after reading about ame29's success with it. (My not-credit-card was a visa gift cart; the sim card snap-out cards were too thick.) It was possible; I took it nice and slow.

I have a GSM/HSPA+ Nexus, and the back cover snapped back on nicely -- you can barely tell there is a bulge from how the part near the camera now has a tiny bit of give in it. I did cut off the entire palm sticker area to save some space.

I tried to cheat and fold over the part on the battery instead of soldering since my solder tools were at home, but had no luck -- right after actual soldering, it works! On the rom I am using, there is a 10 second delay before it starts to charge.

I also stayed with the pre's build in magnets or disks, and it was strong enough for me to lift the touchstone via the phone, but not strong enough to cling through the case. Testing using nfc with my tablet showed that still worked, too. I might try bigger magnets later.

This was an awesome and fun mod; thanks!

I just have finished my mod and the phone didn't charge at all so I have opened it again and messured everything but the connections are okay. I have a palm charger with palm cable and three Touchstones. So I just changed the Touchstones. With one Touchstone everything works great and it's charging fine. With the other two I have seen the same problem as you have. The connection breaks every minute and comes back. You can't see this on the display but you can hear it. Hold your head near the touchstone and you can hear a noise when the coil is on it. Even without phone. When the phone finally takes the power to charge the noise is gone. With the two strange touchstones I always get that noise coming and going. Will check out if that occures too when charging a Palm Pre. But it seems that it's a problem with the touchstone itself. I have read about that on amazon too.
