[GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phone!!

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

just bought all the parts to do the mod.... hopefully it will take the edge off so I dont decide to root and become a flashoholic again :)... cant afford that with two kids now...

wish we had a nice bumper case option though....

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

will the Nexus still charge if I have a case on it, such as the Diztronics TPU case? I plan on doing the 8 magnet setup if that means anything.

This is exactly what I did, but I put the magnet and coil inside the tpu case not inside the battery door and it works great

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

do you use wires to connect the coil to the pogo pins or the copper tape that the OP used?

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

Big thanx to the OP and everyone else on here....
Got the mod working this morning in less then 30 min... (helps that I work in an engineering lab)

unfortunately it doesnt work with a case on it... so I might have to move the mod to my TPU case...

Especially since Im one of those guys who dropd the phone a lot :)

thanx again
Danny

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

Update, after tinkering a bit more...
I now have the mod done inside the phone (back cover) and I put a tpu case on my phone, and it still charges even through the back cover and tpu case.... and I dont even have the official charger connected to the touchstone (which I assume provide more power to it then I am getting now)

much happier now... just waiting for my stronger magnets now...

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

what did you change to get it to work through the case + back cover?

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

not actually sure... just messed around some....
after using it over the weekend, I can say it doesnt work super we through the case, not very reliable....
I will probably have to get a bumper case for the phone....

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

I have a GSM Gnex with standard battery and standard cover, and was never able to get the cover fully seated. It tended to pop open, especially when using the stronger magnets. I then went the route of putting the coil in an aftermarket case, which works great, but I really miss my 'naked' phone.

Question: Is there any way to just get the extended battery cover for the GSM phone *without* the battery? I'd like to keep the std battery to ensure I have enough room for the coil. I've looked all over but can't seem to find just the cover without the extended battery.

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

Just buy it with the battery and sell the battery or keep it as a spare. I had a similar problem a while back and solved it with a new battery door. I think the tabs were a little worn. The new door worked great.

Re: [GUIDE] Galaxy Nexus MOD/Palm Touchstone-No soldering on phon

By the way, it was an VZW extended battery door. I found a replacement (without battery) on Amazon. Try looking there. I'm sure someone sells the GSM door you are looking for.

This is so frustrating. So near and yet so far. It works ... sometimes ... but less than one third of the time. When it isn't working, what seems to "fix" it is to take the cover off and press down on everything. I don't know why. It may then work for half an hour but will soon be non-working again. I'm using the back cover which comes with the Seidio extended battery, but using the standard battery, because with the extended battery I can't get the cover closed.

Rod, Not to get too far off topic, but when will we see a webOS port for the Galaxy Nexus? I still use webOS everyday on my Touchpad and Palm Pre Plus in airplane mode but miss it as my daily driver.

Open webOS is not yet released for another couple of months, and that's the starting point for a port.

I padded the area where the tape on the back makes contact the the tape attached to the Pogo Plug, with the extended battery covers there can be a slight gap. I rolled up short lengths of tape, conductive side out, and placed them on top of the door tape.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I will try that. However, when it gets into this non-working state, I remove the back cover and put just the cover on the TS and measure voltage on the tape there, or on the tabs on that tiny circuit board, and it fluctuates wildly between 0 and 1.2 instead of the constant 5.5 I see when things are working correctly. So I suspect there's something wrong with how I've done the cover. (The door connection might very well be flaky too.)

I'll probably undo it all and redo from scratch. I'd like to find some really thin double-sided tape though. Looped household transparent tape didn't stay in place well, and the mounting tape I got from Lowe's is rather thick. Any recommendations?

EDIT: Redid the back cover with no tape. Just lined up the magnets and the coil and used the Palm black sticker to hold it all in place. It's gripping stronger and charging correctly 100% so far. Luckily I had 2 phones to cannibalize since on one of them the charging tabs broke off from the circuit board. The only issue at the moment is it still won't close over the extended battery. The only way I see to make it any thinner would be to rip out the felt or whatever it is on the back cover.

lordbah - I needed to trim some of the stiffening ribs besides the ones under the camera opening and where the magnets want to be. I needed to trim the ribs that fell under the tape at the edge.

My cover doesn't seem to have any stiffening ribs, just a piece of felt. This cover came with Seidio Innocell 3800mAh Super Extended Life Battery for Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE - (w/NFC).
