[Guide] How to get the Gingerbread OTA update and stay rooted!

So it looks like the rooted rom updates updated on 6/5 - If I followed all these steps and rooted on 6/3, do I need to start all over (steps 1-7) to get the 6/5 update?

What do you mean? I'm confused on what you're asking.

Sorry, over asking it.

The Deodexed and Odexed files on xda-developers.com show they have updated on 6/5. The ones I used and flashed on the evo where from 6/3. Do I need to flash the updated rom files?

Hope that makes sense now.. Thanks for the help!

its prob a good thing to flash the update im downloading it now sprint just tried to send me an update to the prl but i stopped it

OK I am a little confused here. I have evo with froyo rooted with myn's warm 2.2. Is there a way to get gingerbread and still keep all my info and apps? Most of what I have read is how to do it with the stock rom or by totally wiping the phone and having to start over with apps and info. If you do a recovery after the update does it put the phone back to froyo or just put everything back to the way it was but with gingerbread? I guess I am just not sure how to precede with my configuration.

@mviars if you have titanium backup it will back up your apps and data and when your restore it will restore your games to the point you save them at

Use titanium back up to keep what you need. Then use the guide.

Its up too you, you dont "need" to do anything if your phone is working the way you want it too.

I am having trouble with the odexed and deodexed downloads from the developers forum no mater which one or which site the zip can never be unzipped or explored from windows NOR will my recovery install it keeps saying bad zip. I tried may sites(mirrors)and multiple times. am I doing something wrong?

Well after wiping everything and installing the rooted deodexed gingerbread I cannot get into recovery. Any ideas on what to do? I was going to install the combo updates as suggested at begining of the thread.

I downloaded rom manager and did the flash from there but after the flash it was stuck on the white HTC evo 4g screen for about a good 25 minutes before I decided to pull the battery and do a restore. I did this while at work and was going crazy thinking my phone was done for.

Have you tried through the bootloader or are you getting the screen with the exclamation marks?

If the screen with exclamation marks then use Rom Manager and flash a Recovery.

Did you have Rom Manager wipe before flashing? You didn't mentioned so I had to ask.

If so then try from your recovery. Just wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache.

I have downloaded all that is required, backed up with titanium. Now when I go to boot into recovery I do not see the option where I am suppose to hit ?nandroid?

Am I overlooking something?

If you are on Amon_RA the nandroid is in the backup/restore option. If Clockwork it should be the exact same. I haven't used clockwork in a long time so I can't truly remember how it is worded.

Yes I did have rom manager wipe all the data. I actually downloaded the Rom from xda on Saturday and had it on my SD card and decided to use that one and it worked with no problems. Titanium backup saved all my apps so I'm good to go. Thanks for all the help. Only thing now I really don't understand is the radios and what they do?

Thanks

They might help with better cell signal and wimax signal. Notice how I said might. I been reading how people have got better service with both but others haven't notice anything. I myself haven't notice anything with the cell part but I have a strong signal. I'll have to head out to the in-laws to test it. I don't live in a 4g area but am close to it. Only thing is it is being tested here. It isn't official yet.

A very few have said 4G wasn't working as good after the update. Not sure about the cell part as I haven't seen anything on it yet. As igotsanevo4g mentioned you can downgrade if you think your service isn't as good as it once was.

If you are going to update just be sure to follow igotsanevo4g instructions.

I tried downloading and flashing the combo radio pack. It didn't reboot twice like was described, and now my Google Voice isn't working!

Cyanogen Mod for new Gingerbread update?

Does anyone happen to know if/when Cyanogen Mod will work w/ new Gingerbread update?
I didn't see anything on their site so I thought I would inquire here.
