[Guide] How to get the Gingerbread OTA update and stay rooted!

Q: When trying to restore the combo radio zip through Rom Manager, it only takes several seconds when selecting the "install zip from sdcard" It doesn't take the 7-10 mins, am I doing something wrong?
A: Its different for everyone, just install the radio zip and it will tell you to reboot from the menu in recovery. After you hit reboot it will install the radios and kick you back to recovery. Reboot again and youre done.
Just to be sure, go to about phone>software and make sure your radio # matches the numbers from the zip you installed. (2.15.00.05.02)

When I tried to install the combo pack, it immediately went to the recovery screen where i rebooted. the baseband version is 2.15.00.11.19, it seems higher than what is being attempted to flash from above?

The 05.02 is the latest radio version. If your on 11.19, that's the old one. I would recommended flashing the new update, my signal has gotten so much better. Were you having a problem flashing them?

yea, they don't flash.

The hboot flash with the fine renamed to PC36G.zip just goes quick, does not change the version number.
The recovery flash of the combo file does not work either, goes real fast and does not change anything.

I have already updated to GB Odexed and that appears to be fine. What do i do?

Works like a champ.
Quick sidenote though, after the flash and reboot i couldnt get back into recovery by the standard vol. down + power down method. but, grabbing rom manager from the market and using the "reboot into recov." worked fine. the only issue i had was that the every time i turned it on from off the phone would boot in about 3 seconds, which really isnt an issue, and the screen brightness would be all the way down. that was pretty easily resolved by just unchecking and rechecking the automatic brightness box. anyhow, i finally got it to boot normal with no brightness problem after a battery and sd pull (dont know if the sd pull matters but, i did it). hope that helps if anyone is having a similar issue.

Thanks for your great instructions on the update, it worked prefect. I haven't been doing the updates for a while and I forget how to do the restore of my apps. I did a full titanium backup before the update & Clockwork.

Does it matter if I have deleted some of the bloatware apps like Nova demo and Blockbuster? I mean do I need to reinstall any of those before I do this update?

Wait, did you flash the new Hboot zip? That is something to stay away from for the average user. I just flashed the radio combo zip and was fine. DON'T DO anything with the new Hboot zip. Just put the combo zip and the root of your SD card and flash it like you would any ROM. I would suggest flashing the RA recovery before hand though as I have found it to be a lot better than Clockwork. You can do this by installing ROM manager from the market and select flash alternate recovery from inside the app. It'll either say Anon RA 2.2 or 2.3. After flashing...uninstall ROM manager as it will no longer work that recovery. Place the combo zip on the root of SD card and follow instructions as per the OP. :-)

Nah, just make a nandroid before you do anything. After the nandroid just flash the ROM and radio updates like you would any other. Should be good to go. :-)

Some issues

Since I bumped up to the new release I find that some apps that use the compass function are not working. Also after I restored my apps from my Titainium backup I have had to reinstall at least half of them to get them to be fully functional again. This is on a Sprint EVO. I had no problems on the phone prior to this upgrade.

yes, they do not show up in the marketplace for auto updating. i am reinstalling the ones that dont show up. sigh...

Haven't seen this issue anywhere else, but if it is sorry. After I flashed the updates everything works great except for the camera. Both the main and front cameras only show a white screen, and when I take a picture it stays white, but the picture will show up in the gallery as it's supposed to. It's not a humungous deal, just an annoyance.

Also, if it matters, which it probably does, I flashed a different kernel so that I could mirror at 720p using Full HDMI. (netarchy-toastmod-4.3.4-cfs-havs-less-sbc-universal-signed.zip)

Thanks.

The kernel is more than likely the reason your camera goes solid white. If it really starts to bother you...flash the stock kernel that came with ROM and everything should be back to normal.

Did you wipe when you updated?

You can also use app brain in the market to sync your apps to the cloud. That way you always have a list of your apps.

This kernel is for use on 2.2 froyo roms ONLY. Because we do not have the kernel source for the latest update, there are no custom kernels for it. Flash the stock 2.6.35 that came with the rom, or just reflash the rom after a cache/dalvik cache wipe.

Hey, if i uninstall Rom Manager, will there only be AmonRa that works by putting the img in the root and rebooting?

If you have AmonRA as your recovery you might as well delete ROM Manager, it doesn't work with it. Just place the .img on the root of the SD card and reboot into Hboot and wait for Hboot to detect it. Should then ask you if you want to update, tell it yes and let it do its thing. Don't forget to also flash the radio update if you haven't already. :-)
