Simple enough...it appears that I did root it back in December when I got it. Certainly explains why the 4.0.4 update doesn't complete. Thanks for the quick and simple answers.Besides having a superuser app like dmmarck mentioned or downloading an app that requires root/superuser permissions....
You can download the android terminal emulator... open the app and if the command line starts with a "$" then you're rooted. If it starts with a "#" then you're not rooted.
Now to read up on how to unroot it. I dont suspect there is an app for that.
