[Guide] Installing Swype Beta on HTC Inspire 4G

hey guys on some of the inspires its a lil different instead of leaving it in debug mode you have to put it in sync mode or it will continue to say your device is offline and jus follow the rest of the steps in the guide and you shouldnt have any probs

I have an Inspire on ATT,

swype is installed and checked, but it doesn't come up as the keyboard.

I downloaded swype but now it needs to be updated and I'm not sure how since updating it on my phone isnt an option.

Thank you! This is my first android, and first time sideloading. Worked great, installed on first try in less than 5 minutes!! Quick question...since I now have this installed do I have to reinstall for each update or can I just keep the current version I have?

FYI it is impossible to put Swype on an HTC Inspire, unless you are one of the few people who are computer geniuses. There are too many super-complex actions that just cannot be completed by even above-average computer users.

Both HTC and AT&T told me by phone that the Inspire has been designed to prohibit sideloading of all apps. You will not be able to put a non-Market app on your Inspire (unless of course you are a computer genius).

No. You don't need to be a computer genius. You just have to be able to follow directions.

Mind you, my trial expired so I had to go back and re-install. Remembered that I had to download again (Swype-Installer-2.apk) so I had to remember to add the -2 before apk in the instructions. Once I did that, I was good to go.

If you would of looked throughout this post (even past the first page) you would see that many have installed it. It doesn't take a computer genius. Doesn't even take a casual user if you can follow directions.

All AT&T phones disable the ability to sideload apps. This is what sideload wonder machine is for, and it is posted in the tutorial.

Anyways, I got an email about an update for Swype. It said one of the fixes with the update is the deterioration of prediction of words over long periods of time. I haven't had Swype long so I don't know how bad this with Swype beta1. Is it worth trying to update, and if so what is the process?

Ok I have a question. I have been reading everyone posts on the trouble they have had installing swype into the phone. Now is it worth the trouble of the install or should you wait till the full release date??
I'm very new to using this phone coming from an iPhone so there for I'm a lot behind the curve here.

Just remember, if you brick it it's yours. If you're worried about it just wait.

Hey guys when I type "adb devices" nothing pops up. I am in USB debugging mode, and in charging mode. What does it mean when it says your drivers might not be correct up top?

I had the same problem. I think I changed it to "HTC sync" mode and it worked. I can't remember if I switched it back to "charge only" or not. I'm running Vista so I always have problems with my drivers.

have the option, not working

i tried this. and it doesnt work. i have a rooted htc inspire through one click. I have the option in my settings and i check the box. nothing happens, i have restarted the phone as well. I dont know why its not working... any ideas??

Just a thought, but if it's rooted and you've checked the box, you ought to be able to do it the standard way without going through all this. Just sign up for the beta, get the email, and follow the steps.

Ya, but its still locked down. With the one click it basically rooted the phone to stock ROM with hsupa enabled and root access... but still has side load blocked and ATT apps still loaded... so again. I have swype installed, but nothing happens when I check the box...

Thank you for sharing this. I have for a long time wanted to put Swype on my phone but I could never get past installing the installer. You rock!!
