[Guide] Installing Swype Beta on HTC Inspire 4G

KB58,

After you've gone through the entire install process and made sure Swype is checked in your Language and Keyboard settings, open Messaging, tap Compose message, and tap and hold in the "Tap to add text area". After a few seconds let up and you should see a popup with Input Method. Select Swype and you should be good to go.

Cant get this Sideloader to install on the mac. help please!

ok, i couldn't get the installer to get the files in the method he described, but if you open the swm-install.sh with text edit you can get the address for the actual swm (sideload wonder machine), then put the address into address bar of your browser, download it, and continue on with step 4! hope that helps, if not write back.

Excellent work, Skroll. I didn't try this with my mac, but on my windows 7 laptop everything worked exactly as stated in your instructions. I have skype installed and working on my new HTC Inspire 4G. Thanks!!

Great work and thanks! Amazing how you guys figure this stuff out.

Does anyone know if this "work around" will work with apps that install because of "security" issues?

Awesome! This is a great guide, before I knew about this I installed Swype on my brother's unrooted Aria by using AC_SWM to transfer my version of the Swype library to his phone; it didn't work at first, but after running the installer a second time it repaired/reauthenticated/rebuilt or something, and my brother now has Swype as well. This method is significantly easier!

Interestingly, I followed all the steps and I can see Swype as an option under Language and Keyboards and it is selected as well. However, my keyboard is still not Swype :-( Do I need to do anything? I have rebooted the phone but that did not help.

Got it via Windows for my Inspire 4g.

One note **** In step one, my file was AC_SWM not AC-SWM. Dont know about other people.

Thanks for the write up!

So I got swype installed on my Inspire from the beta download but it will only work in the tutorial. When I tried to use it for texting it said that it wasnt set for this device. When I try to use it it just makes a line but wont make words only if I do letters one at a time. What did I do wrong.
Thanks

Same here, very frustrating until I figured it out. Maybe different versions of SWM? This version has been on my computer for months because of my captivate.

EDIT* Just confirmed this.....SWM version 1.0 is AC-SWM. I am running SWM version 1.1 beta which installs as AC_SWM. Maybe OP should update his post.

So I got swype installed but I cannot make it my default keyboard. Its checked but when I open a text it still opens the android keyboard. Am I doing something wrong
