[Guide] Installing Swype Beta on HTC Inspire 4G

I got Swype installed and set as my default input method and it was working perfectly, but now when I try to use it, I can swipe across the letters I want to use, and it shows the path, but it doesn't ever enter the text into the box. I have just type normally for that to happen.

Any ideas?

Sooooo. Um. I have installed 8 off market APK files since buying my Inspire yesterday. Including Swype. Without use of SWM. I used astro file manager to see them on my sd card, selected the files, and used the astro apk installer. Everything installed without a hiccup.

Great - thanks for the SWD! I had a question though.

Yesterday I installed Swype on my gf's Inspire using my beta invite - we had problems with it sometimes locking up the phone and not responding to input, and then I realized that I had installed (I think) my EVO beta version. We wiped that, and installed a fresh installation using a new Swype beta login. We got it installed, and today we have problems like a few members above have mentioned - the swype keyboard works when letters are tapped individually, and I can swype across the keyboard and see the "trail", but no word appears - like there's no dictionary access or something. I logged into Swype's website and it indicates that I'm using a Desire HD (is that the european version of this phone?).

Anyone have ideas? Are we going to have to wait until the Swype devs get ahold of some source code to make a specific "Inspire" version of the Swype beta?

Can anyone help I can get through step 4, there is no device listed on the CMD prompt, it just shows C:\AC_SWM

Thanks

The beta invite I used was originally for a Nexus One. I honestly think the Inspire its not as locked down as we thought. Has anyone else just tried installing things with out using SWM like I have?

6 of the 8 apps I installed were skins from the Desire HD area of XDA. And for some reason Tapatalk thinks my phone us a Desire HD, too.

Kudos man.. Great walkthrough. I just got me an inspire yesterday although I knew swype wasnt installed on it. I love the swype feature and am glad I can put it on my phone without rooting it.

Thanks!

Great guide! I just got an Inspire yesterday and am completely knew to Android as well. I got this running in about 5 minutes thanks to the guide! I have heard so much about Swype that I really wanted to try it.

I'm having an issue on Step 11 when typing "adb pull /data/data/com.swype.android.installer/files/mypackage.apk ./mypackage.apk". It tells me, "remote object '/data/data/com.swype.android.installer/files/mypackage.apk ./mypackage.apk' does not exist".

I'm not sure if this means anything but I never got prompted which version of Swype I wanted to install. Any ideas?

Installing Swype on the HTC Inspire
