OK. After 5 hours and no sleep, I was finally able to restore my stock ROM.
RUU was useless. I was never able to get it to recognize my device.
1st, I needed to fix the unmountable SD Card. Following the instructions here, I was able to get the SD Card working again. I also followed the steps to Fix the USB, but this didn't make any difference with RUU.
After this, I was able to copy the stock PC36IMG.ZIP file to the SD Card.
Finally, I was able to Power|Volume Down and my EVO recognized the PC36IMG.ZIP file and installed the "Update".
After rebooting, I received the dreaded 5 vibrations once again. Removing/replacing the battery, I booted with the comforting Sprint boot graphic.
I'm still getting the 5 vibrations and black screen still though! Now what to do?
The phone is brand new. I powered it on briefly before rooting & installing the Sprint Lovers ROM. I suppose that it could be hardware related. Being that I didn't run it stock for very long, I can't be sure.
It seems that the phone won't charge when it is turned on. Also, this morning I rebooted and received an HTC Sense error and the phone wouldn't boot as it did earlier.
I'm not one to go and take it to a store as I feel that this is a result of my doing. But after reinstalling the stock ROM, I would have thought that any damage done by rooting & installing the custom ROM would have been reversed.
Just wanted to say thank you very much for all the time and effort you put into this guide. I really appreciate it!![]()
Tried and tried but was never able to get this fixed. I took the device back to the store. As soon as I mentioned 5 vibrations, they offered a new device. Seems this is a known issue.
That being said, I'm not sure I'm going to attempt a custom ROM install again.
Thanks all for your help!
hello. Im new to rooting and figured i would give this a try. I am on step 3 when i click debugging a prompt comes up on my computer screen telling me (windows needs to install driver software for your android phone) I click locate and install then it asks for a cd. problem is i never recieved a cd with my evo.Can someone help please?
I have the drivers now but when i enter(adb push root/unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/) i get device not found. Can someone point me in the right direction please?
Try re-connecting your phone to the computer or using a different USB port.
Did you install HTC sync? - Please follow the steps one by one, it's a lot easier.
yes i did install htc sync.I have three different usb ports on my laptop and I tried them all. The funny thing is i was at work when i first took the phone out of the box. I connected to the computer at work and installed the htc sync that was on my phone to the computer. I was able to connect to htc sync with no problem. I was gonna try and root my phone using the computer at my job but quickly realized that my supervisor put a block on the computers that doesnt allow me to write to unauthorized disk drives. So i go home and try with my laptop,i was able to install HTC sync but for some reason i wasnt able to get the drivers, after searching i finally got the drivers that were needed. Still no luck, the htc sync doesnt even recognize my phone.I even tried the unrevoked 3 and it stays stuck on the "plug phone in screen". I dont understand why my phone isnt recognized by the programs but when i check the driver manager it shows up. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
How were you able to get the driver? The HTC sync app actually installs the driver that's needed.
Do you have USB debugging enabled? Did you do a factory reset? Do you have any music/media sync applications installed?
yes i did have debugging enabled,i also did a factory reset. All i have as far as music/media is what the phone came with. I got the drivers from a forum i was sent to when i googled htc evo drivers for root.I did everything the instructions said to do and im still not able to get the device to be recognized.I guess my phone was just not meant to be rooted![]()
