The same thing happened to me. Go to post # 209 (http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...-w-screen-shots-1-27-2011-a-6.html#post576760)

Here is what digitalkarma said (it worked for me):

looks like you ran into a similar problem that happened to me. first time i tried it command prompt was giving me headaches with RSA BACKUP, even with copying and pasting from this guide. i was freaking out about losing my 4g forever! then later on i was able to access my disk drive and both nandroid folder and oem key were there so that wasn't the real problem. steps 11-14 were..i did the same thing you did and also got error: device offline. here were the mistakes i made:

1. chmod 0755 /data/local/flash_image
./data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img sync

solution: obviously flustered by the RSA KEYS part, i entered the 2nd line of code wrong. sync is supposed to be seperate, third line of code

2. when i entered the reboot bootloader command, my phone was supposed to start rebooting but it didn't. what i did wrong was reboot the phone manually. i turned off the phone. powered it into reboot mode: vol down+power, did step 13, got the red triangle screen. i thought i was okay right? i typed in adb push recovery and device said offline. i took the battery out, but the phone was still powering on with red triangle screen so i took it off the USB cord. i rebooted, plugged it back in USB and tried again.."device offline"

solution: i think when i turned the phone off and on, the adb lost connection with phone. i even tried typing in 'adb shell' and 'su' and start from step 8 again to see if i can hook it back up and it still said device offline. also it probably didn't help that i took the device off the USB. ..BUT anyhow. what i did here was unbricked my softbricked phone and started over from scratch. next time, if you type in reboot bootloader and the phone doesn't automatically reboot something is wrong. and it might be related to the sync command i mentioned earlier.

other than that, i had no problems. although the RSA KEY part was giving me problems again today instead of doing: mkdir /sdcard/nandroid/
i did this command first: mkdir /sdcard/nandroid/RSA-PR-BACKUP
and i got no path exist and i started doing it like the guide line by line and it worked this time. then again, its the recovery mode you're having trouble with...

hope this helps!! although coming from a relatively noobie who hasn't rooted a phone before such as me!"

I hope this helps you, like it helped me.

I forgot to say that I just re-started at step 11. Everything went smoothly (more or less) after that.

I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding this

1. chmod 0755 /data/local/flash_image
./data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img sync

solution: obviously flustered by the RSA KEYS part, i entered the 2nd line of code wrong. sync is supposed to be separate, third line of code his same way "" then i try without / before sdcard and use just the space since i did something like that at a earlier step to make it GO, i try downloading HTCsync and check the files in other laptop then start all over ,with no luck that way ! i keep changing from spaces and removing "/' also try to start over couple of times i take a smoke break after my head got little confused went back to the forums and now I'm back at the same place
/ you guys think i should restore factory settings again or what should i try?

Quote:
adb -d install -r root/z4root.apk
adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n < this Line I get the error: argument expected after -n
<<i try as many different ways I can come up with and i do not want to go away i hope i ca get some help on this in te meantime i will go back and read again try to understand a little more this SItE is AMAZING y BRAIN hurts a little i think is been doing nothing for too long , Thank you guys

Amyway just wanted to say thanks Fred your instruction were real easy to follow and concise. I cant believe only 24 people thanked you wtfff!!! lol

on a seperate note i would just add after the last step after sprint lovers rom is flashed, and you restart the phone, you should mention that the HTC quietly brilliant screen is it loading, because it looks exactly like the HTC engineering screen, so thats why i posted because i thought i was stuck and messed something up lol

even now posting this i just reflashed back to sprint lovers from freshevo, and that screen still scared me lol

also which rom do you think is better for battery life and speed running on top of netarchy 4.2 kernel, freshevo, sprint lovers, or another rom?

Also on a side note is there a way to get the percentage battery icon in sprint lovers on freshevo quite honestly thats the reason i switched back to sprint lovers lol

Hey,

Haven't heard back since I last left a response. My MD5 sums matched. Recap of my problem, I get the Radio_V2 fail-pu when I am flashing/updating the Engineering zip. (I have pushed all files, z4root, backed up rsa keys, bootloader, update package [this is where is fails]). Any other advice as to what direction I should take this?

Can unrevoked root my phone? (004 hardware, 2.10 hboot, 3.70.651.1 software) or is it not recommended for my specs

I got my answer netarchy + Sprint lovers ftw this thing is blazing fast and hopefully the kernal gives better battery life

try Repair or uninstall and install back

my htc sync doesnt work either...but i dont need the program cuz i just pull up windows explorer and pull what i need from the sd card anyway.

I had to do this a couple of times before it work

Finally Finish! the guide was great

I have 2 say that in some of the files I had to change small things like take one of / out "here and there " or skip a few lines and then go back and do them, really do not know why this happen to me . i try to quick post on a few of the steps that i got stock and no one answer , one thing i did was read a lot i mean pages and pages of other forums but kept this guide open and use it at all times ,
I also read this: htcevohacks dot com/htc-evo-hacks/how-to-root-htc-evo-4g-new/ I do not know if i can post this up here"? but it did help me , like when i was stock at adb -d install -r root/z4root.apk
instead of the second line on step 7. i open Z4 on the phone like the other guide suggest and it worked .Anyways thanks to the 2 people who help me on this and the other ones who just ignored me ,no hard feelings.I"m 8yrs old & Love EVO:-$

Unrevoked can root your phone.

I'm not sure why the radio isn't being updated and causing the entire update to fail.

Where you able to flash over your misc partition successfully earlier in the root process?

Yeah sorry dude couldn't help much all I did was copy and pasted and everything worked I have no idea why you had to change spacing ect unless you were writing out the commands yourself then the only person you can blame is yourself lol

Mad funny though I went back to read what the problem you were having and saw you took a smoke break and your 8! Lol

Hey,

Been hanging around the forums for awhile now and you guys have motivated me to root my Evo. I came from a Palm Pre last July and have never looked back. Never really felt the need to root as the phone was great... but now I'm looking for more. I'm on hardware v0003.

I followed the directions outlined in the first post (and read most of this thread), and everything went smooth until step 14. I got stuck on the White HTC screen, so I pulled the battery and powered on the phone holding down the volume down and power button.

It rescanned pc36img.zip, I said no to apply update, no to reboot and selected recovery. Got the screen with the red triangle.... but about 5 seconds later the phone seemed to reboot again to the white HTC screen and then back to the phone / home screen. At this point non of the commands worked... I can't remember the exact message, but it was almost like the phone was not being recognized.

Now I'm on Software #1.17.651.1 and z4 is now in my application drawer. If I open z4 it gives me the options to re-root or un-root.

Not sure what to do next and nervous to continue without some guidance and what to do next. Any thoughts / advise would be appreciated, can't wait to get this rooted!

Take Care!

Thanks... I'll take a look and watch the videos. Strange thing is I started of with software version 3.70 and am now at 1.71. I rooted my pre so I am pretty comfortable with this type of stuff.

Here is some additional info on where I am at. I noticed I now have some "apps" in the drawer that I have not seen before?

CIQ Tools
HDMI Controller
HTC SSD Test
WiMax Settings
WiMax Router
WiMax Tool

So am I actually rooted and now just have to flash the Sprint Lovers ROM from the instructions on pg 1? Am I partially rooted? Not as up to speed on Android rooting as I was Palm so trying to figure out where I'm at in the process.

I get to step 13 from OP. Up till 13, everything goes flawless. I am not sure what you mean by flash over misc partition. Still learning...but I have done you're root for a 003 hardware and it worked great...I understand a lot more and so I wouldn't mind doing unrevoked since I know a little about rooting (instead of nothing like when I unrevoked my 001 hardware).

Thanks jonhdoe...
I was able to use simple root and it got me back to the red triange, I picked up at step number 15 and everything worked! I'm rooted with Sprint Lovers now... and it's time to get everything set up, take a back up and try some roms.

Thanks for your help!
