[GUIDE] Rooting 3.7/Hboot2.02+ w/screen shots (1/27/2011)

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but I didn't think Unrevoked 3 included the Sprint Lovers rom?

You will see no changes initially since you're on the stock rom. Download the terminal emulator app to confirm that you are indeed rooted. Even if you're not going flash a different rom, it's good to be rooted so that u can create nandroid backups, and use great apps like titanium backup, rom manager, and best of all set cpu for great battery life. I personally like the stock rom with launcher pro.

My command prompt hasn't moved past the last adb push (step 6, line 5) for 30 minutes now....what should I do?

I have a question. I am currently using revoked 3, if I run a full root how will my phone look ( home screen menus, web pages, contacts, apps, phone function etc...). Since I have used revoked 3 I am curious now about rooting and its purpose.

if you used that method then you should already have full root. Rooting itself doesn't change the appearance, etc. It just gives you "admin" privileges to load new roms etc, which then would change the appearance and stuff. Here is a link to a rom wiki HTC Supersonic/ROMs - XDA-Developers

Alot of the roms are discussed in other threads along with screen shots.

Thanks Fred. FYI, for those trying this, if you mess up just start again and read the instructions carefully (also if Z4 says you are rooted already start from that point, that's what I did, also had to do a couple battery pulls). Also, if you want to do this on Linux search on xda forums. I am working on doing this for Ubuntu, when I get it to work i'll post how I did it (unless someone beats me to it).

Will be trying this out this weekend....how much time should I budget for the process....am excited to unleash my evos potential!!

Unrevoked3 just roots your phone and disables the security so you can flash other roms. Unrevoked by itself will not flash a new rom or erase your data.

I hope you closed it out and tried it again, keep in mind though the PC36IMG files are HUGE.

I would give yourself a solid hour just to be on the safe side and not have to feel like you need to rush if you have to be somewhere - this method will erase your phone so you'll spend some time setting things back up as well.

should expect to see any major difference in the appearance of my phone after i'm done with this process? (sprint lovers rom is being installed, so i'm assuming the phone wont "look stock but be rooted"?)

i'm about to give this ago within the hour!

Sprint Lovers looks a lot like stock.

Excellent instructions! They were thoroughly detailed and included illustrations. You rock Fred, thanks for putting this together for us.

I seem to be stuck on step 8. z4root says I have root access but typing the su command into console keeps saying access denied. Any idea why?

EDIT: using su from a terminal on the device also says permission denied, but z4root clearly tells me that it was able to give temporary root.

Reboot your phone and run z4root again, make sure to choose temporary.

I have rooted using this method with Sprintlovers. Its been a while.. Was wondering about the newer version of Sprintlovers... Please guide...

Problems

I have a Mac Book Os and im having a hard time trying to Root my Evo.. Seems like nothing is working or i don't know what im doing

Try Unrevoked 3. Www.unrevoked.com. Read all the instructions first, and make sure you learn how to create a nandroid backup before u start flashing roms. It's so easy on Macs cuz u don't need to download all those drivers that u need on windows. I was skeptical at first, but it works great. U just plug in ur phone and click. There's a tutorial on youtube if u need it.
