Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

Go into settings>general>accounts>Google and then choose your Google account. You will see an option at the bottom right to remove the account. Then you need to add the Google account back with your new password

This is correct, except that when you use 2-step verification on the Google account, you need to enter an application-specific password when re-creating the google account on the phone. Then it will work even with 2 step (I have seen many other posts on this on various forums where the solution was reported to be turning osff 2-step, but that is not necessary if you set an app-specific password for the google account on the phone).

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

Hi. I really could do with some help here :)

I own a Galaxy S4. Since the kit kat update, the OS has been flaky and my phone keeps rebooting itself, which while pretty bizarre, I can live with it since, up to now, the phone has worked well, and the re-boot is speedy.

However, as of 5 days ago, I have managed to hit a pretty significant issue.

Firstly, I could not visit Google Play or even access my email and I do not know what triggered this. It seemed that it was random. Upon trying to re-authenticate, using correct credentials, I got the following message:

"Couldn't sign in

There was a problem communicating with Google servers

Try again later"

After getting this message 20 something times over the last 5 days, I no longer have the belief that "Trying again later" is going to fix this issue.

To make matters worse :) I tried removing my google account, which now has resulted in me not having any contacts on my phone.

I have read around a few forums and most of the tabled solutions talk about turning off 2 step authentication. Whilst that is great if it fixes someone else's issue, I have never had it on hence it is of no use to me.

If you are able to help, it really would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards, Rob

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

Can you access your gmail account using a web browser? Maybe if you could double check your settings it might help. Did you try adding back your gmail account to your phone?

The rebooting seems more serious, maybe it's just a matter of needing a replacement battery.

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

Had the same issue. Was confounded that Google doesn't make it easy. It is... it's just not obvious. Look for a message in Notifications!

Google had been using OpenSSL and which was vulnerable to HeartBleed attacks. Now fixed, the best thing to do is change your password. I did this with a browser on a computer and, of course, now my phone and tablets are not working. The phone handles it pretty smoothly (GS4 with Kit Kat). It just prompted me there was an error and to enter the Google password. But, as others in this and other forumns discovered, there's no way to proactively[Ichange your passowrd [/I]. On my tablet (Jellybean), I found a warning under Notifications that provided a way to change the password on the device. After putting in the new password, everything syncs just fine.

A word to Google: "Hello?" LOL -- you put your more loyal people (people with more than one Android device) in a position to have to change their password and deal with this problem. You should make it easy for them to find their way through this!

The 2 step verification was a bit of a problem with Katien Mail, ended up turning that feature off. Password change: 9 sites, 2 hours taken with 3 Android devices and 1 laptop.

Just about to post this same exact thing. What you described will fix his problem.

On my Note 3 there is no option at the bottom right to remove account...

Thanks for the post guys this was really starting to frustrate me!! I had to change my password and decided to add 2 step verification as my account was hacked and someone made purchases as well as downloaded phone credit onto voice and made phone calls from my account!! Do you know how to turn off "voice"??? as I didn't even know I had this till someone hacked it! Still working on getting a refund! bah!

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

Guess what! After I tried all what is mentioned here it did not work, so I started with the trial and error and came to solution as below:

You need to disable the "Google Play Service", you can do it as below:

- You should delete all Google accounts, you can do that from "Settings -- Accounts -- Google -- remove Account.
- Now go again to "Settings -- Accounts -- add Account -- and here select "Sync apps with Google+" here it will ask you to disable all Google Play Service or Enable all Google Play Services so you need to hit the option and it will direct you there, you first have to click the "Force Stop" button, then Enable or Disable (whatever the option is).
- Finally it will ask you to enter your Google account, then everything will go just fine.

Have a good day.

Unable to log into Play Store after factory reset on Note 3

Hi,

I have just done a factory reset on my samsung note 3 but I am not able to log into play store with my existing gmail account, neither am I able to create a new account. It said 'there was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later'. For your info, I have not set any 2 step verification. What can I do in order to log into google play?

Re: Had to chpasange google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

I just got a new computer, and I couldn't remember my google password. I reset it, and now I can'c log into google from my phone. It never shows a window to enter my password, and when I refresh gmail, it says I need to sign in. When I click on the sign in, I get a message saying "There was a problem communicating with google servers" try again later. But it never asks me for my login/pasword.

I tried rebooting, but they didn't help.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

I received a notification that someone tried to log into my google account - it was not me.
So I changed the password as requested.
My phone (android 2.3.6 - I'm not a nerd) seemed to work but did not sync correctly. I did no longer receive mail from google. No problem because I use Gmail not as my primary account. I noticed syncing problems for google tracks and photos.

I googled for the google account password change and found here that I had to do a factory reset.

I am bot crazy!

OK, I changed the password in my K9 mail client (Higly recommended!) incoming server settings for google mail. SURPRISE! Ally syncing works again for all applications.

Bug or feature?

I don't care. Just share this experience.

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

I am really frustrated with this same problem since 2 days now. I am now realising how much my life is dependent on this damn Google! I tried what ever you have mentioned here but still didn't work. Also, Google Play Services is not showing on my phone but when I check my play store on web, it says GPS is already there. HELP!

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

I started two step verification. Now my google account on my android phone says password incorrect. I got the 16 digit code but my problem is I can not find out how to change my password on my phone. it only askes me to put in my password then says incorrect password. I am not wanting to delete my account if I am going to lose my contacts and messages! how can I reset without deleting my account? or if I do delete my account and add back will I get my messages and contacts back?

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

The 2 step verification probably is the blame. Disable 2 step verification and then use strong passwords.

Simply go to Mobile play store, which will prompt to enter your new password and continue...

I attempted all the other solutions suggested here short of removing/re-adding my existing Google account, and yours was the only one that worked.
The play store had prompted me to re-enter pw and was working fine, but syncing did not. (even after rebooting)
I signed into Google account with the browser with no positive effect.
I had no "triangle in the notification area" to click on to prompt for a new password. I had no notifications at all.
I do use K9 Email, so I went in to Gmail folder - Settings - Account settings - Fetching mail - Incoming Server, and entered my new PW there.
Immediately Sync began to work in Android settings - Accounts - Google (Kitkat 4.4.2)

Thanks Clemens!

For others. It's possible that installing K9 Email might allow you to fix the issue in a similar way without removing your Google account. Sounds like there's an opportunity here for a 3rd party app that does nothing but update the PW. If K9 can do it, anything should be able to.

Re: Had to change google password, now phone says "There was a problem communicating with Google"

I can't believe (or maybe I can) that this problem was reported over 2 years ago and today (June 21, 2016) I changed my Google password and I'm having the same issues. I was able to sign out and sign in to Chrome on my Android phone (Motorola Moto X Pure). But now if I try to get Gmail, Play Store, Google Drive, I get the prompt to sign in. After I enter my very long password correctly, it asks me to enter the number from the Google Authenticator. I enter it and go through the same thing all over.
