Did double tap to wake to see a missed phone call and let the screen turn itself off. Then did another double tap and nothing happened. Tried it two more times and nothing. Tried the power button and still nothing. Soon had to do a battery pull. First time i pulled it and reinserted the battery still nothing. When i did it again out sprang to life. Phone wasn't hot as out was sitting on my night stand as i was getting ready to leave. Just wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem.

Well, that's weird I haven't encountered problem like this but I can understand that sometimes it may happen because your device may ran out of memory or it may also happen because of the temporary files stored over your device which is encountering with the normal working of your device anyway I would say why don't you try installing some cleaner apps to clean down the temporary files out !

I think its happened to me once or twice, but no big deal. It's happened on every Android phone I've ever had. The weird thing for me is that you have to actually pull the battery. I'm so used to just holding the power button for about 10 seconds to reset anymore.

got this a few times. i also got it on my g2 a few times. some annoying issue that knock on has..

I've not had that exact problem. However, on occasion (and I mean like 4 times in 4 months), I draw my pattern lock after a double tap, but the screen goes blank again before I can complete it. It becomes like some kind of dexterity challenge. Eventually my 41 year old hand/eye co-ordination nails it fast enough, and it's back to normal. It's an odd one though.

^^^Even as I was reading your post my screen dimmed for a second. Not time-out. Not auto-bright. Not battery save. Nooooooo reason at all. Never happened before. That's an odd one too, you will perhaps agree.

I don't find small problems like this to be uncommon on Android in my experience. Small freezes, the phone restarting, screen dimming quickly, battery pulls etc. I've had 4 Android phones over the years and all of them have experienced these issues, either individually or a number of them.

They aren't common, as in happening consistently, but they do happen from time to time. Being that I've seen them happen across multiple phones from different brands (Samsung, LG) I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Yes happened to me after I enabled ART.

I don't blame it directly on ART because I had art running a few weeks but had to be a conflict with an app running on ART and I started getting hard freezes that only pulling the battery would fix. I factory restored the phone and not use ART and use the same apps and no problems since. When they come out with an update to Lollipop I may try ART again because the phone does run smoother on ART and I have my Nexus 4 running ART for over a year no problem.

Will they leave Dalvik in there as an option I wonder?

Unlikely I would think. L will be optimised for ART. If all ART gives you is better than Dalvik, then there wouldn't be much point. Although ART is available as an option now, there's a memory trade off and some issues with it.

I tried a soft reboot and didn't get a response. I'm running on ART if that means anything. Never had to do a battery pull on Android before that's why it concerned me.

I understand that Verizon users have ART trouble at the present time but perhaps all will be well for them on L.

I've had to pull my battery quite a few times, more than I can count on both hands. It for some reason just freezes and it seems to be when I tap off, and tap back on it quickly. It's very annoying. The screen doesn't respond at all to anything, not even the power button.

Art is the cause

I have faced this as well

I find that when I am completely positive about something in the world of smartphones, it means that I think it may just possibly be true, and, often, is not.

I posted this in another post:

Confirming that ART did not work on my Verizon G3. I had just Factory Reset my phone, had turned off my phone backup because some app was draining my battery (really, crap battery life in general, but was worse than usual, can't wait for my free battery & external charger). I had also installed the update. So I thought, good time to test ART. Least amount of apps to update. Well, did ART & the 20 minutes to update, waited 5 minutes, rebooted. Phone soon locked up with screen on, no response. Removed battery, can back on. Soon, screen went black. Pulled battery again to recover. Plug in my charger, abd phone vibrated, but no lightning bolt symbol indicating battery was charging. So, I Factory Reset again (again, no to backup apps) and oddly two apps I have never downloaded appear on my front screen. Bingo Bash & Top Hatter. Weird. Uninstalled, but odd that they were installed on their own. Maybe the update? Guess I will have to wait till Verizon gets me 'L'. Will not hold my breath.

^^^That is really weird. And I should imagine, extremely annoying.
