Anyone ever have the problem where half the screen will freeze but the other half will stay normal? It's happened to me 3 times since getting the phone on the 23rd.

How weird.
No problems here.
Is there a pattern? Are you doing any one thing when it occurs?

Sent from my Sprint Tri-Band Nexus 6.

I have. If I rotate the screen from horizontal to vertical with a video playing it has happened with YouTube.

Yes. That's when it has happened for me too. Not a lot. 3 times, but that's when it has happened. To get out of it I lock the screen then unlock and it's gone.

Your DPI has been changed I suspect. Mine was doing the same. Changed a line in the build.prop file to reset DPI to 560 and problem has gone away.

Not sure what that means exactly. In developer options I'm using NuPlayer instead of Awesome Player for Media. It says NuPlayer is experimental. Could that be it?

Also, my phone isn't rooted, so how would the DPI have changed?

Yes. Uncheck that.
It seems to be the source of several screen/video playback concerns.
Let us know if that corrects it.

I guess maybe the player app could do it.
Some UI for tablets / phones are different DPI optimizations. Sorry, I just auto assume that anyone who buys Nexus is going to unlock the boot loader and root.

I've seen a bunch of people reporting the same issue. Many have just had their device replaced by Motorola. I called and they are willing to replace mine. T Mobile doesn't have any 64 GB available to replace it with. I think I'll just have Moto send me a new one.

Hope it works out. Let us know either way.

Moto sent me a brand new phone. Build date is December 16th. So far no problems, but I just got it today. I'll report back if anything goes wrong.

i had half screen freeze once the other day.... i got an update yesterday. have to see if that occurs again.

Same issue. Happens in the morning when my Timely alarm goes off.
Phone wakes up and half of the screen is black. Hit the power button twice and it's okay.

I get this issue constantly. Usually with any video app (Hulu, FXNow, YouTube, Netflix). It has also occurred when using noon video apps such as games, browsing and even during calls. Turning this one in I think.
