Handcent texts from 6245?

I have an application that sends an email to my phone using 9999999999@vtext.com and ever since the Handcent 4.1.5 update, now all of the text messages sent via email come from 6245 instead of the actual email address. Is anybody else having these issues or is it just me?

I've read that 6245 stands for MAIL, but that doesn't fix my problem.

I am having the same issue. Except I get 2 texts for every one sent to "mynumber"@vtext.com (via an automated process from my work). One comes with the correct email of the sender, the other is a duplicate from "6245".

This doen't happen using the stock sms program that came with the phone.

I'm glad t know I'm not alone. What version of Handcent are you on?

I am using Handcent SMS version 4.1.5 on a Motorola Droid X.

I am using Handcent 4.1.5 on a Bionic and have the very same issue. Just started ....except....they now appear the same way on the stock messaging app too. This really sucks because I have several things that are automated and its difficult to track now. FWIW, when it pops up on the home screen, the email address is shown.

The recent 4.2.1 update fixed part of the problem. Now I get text messages from the email sender correctly, but I also get a duplicate from 6245 which is extremely annoying.

What's also annoying is that when I close the popup notification, It does not mark the text as read in the notification bar nor the app itself so I'm constantly having to manually go in and view them so that they are marked as read.

During my frustration last week, I uninstalled Handcent and installed Go SMS. Everything worked perfectly with the popups and no dups so I'm tempted to go back to it. I like the interface in Handcent better though so I'm holding out hope that they get their act together. Too bad I can't uninstall the previous 2 updates since it was working just fine before.

Having same issue here on Bionic Its very very annoying because I get fire dispatch texts on my phone and getting 2 of them now - it shows the one from the dispatch email so it works fine and then a second fromn 6245. I hide the 6245 but it still shows on the pop up notifications and wont clear.

Just updated to 4.2.3 and still having the same issues that were in 4.2.1

I must be a glutton for punishment for sticking with this app and not going with Go SMS

I've been reading this thread and now recently I've noticed that I've been getting the actual text message and then I get a duplicate text message from 6245. I believe that I do have version 4.2.5 of this program. What's up with this? I can see where that can be frustrating to you all. Hopefully, they will be fixing this pretty soon. In the meantime, I'm going to find another SMS program because I'm not that crazy about the stock SMS program. The colors are a bit annoying to me and there is no way to change them. Or is there? Does anyone know?

Wow... I only installed Handcent because the voice recorder doesn't work on go sms. Been searching forever, and found this thread. I was livid with VZW and now that I uninstalled Handcent ... NO MORE ISSUES.

So the recent 4.3 update fixes part of the problem, but not 100% of it. Texts from 6245 no longer show up which is good, but the pop-up texts don't remove the text notification from the notification bar when they are viewed from the pop-up window.

I've waited 2 months for this to be fixed and unfortunately my patience has worn out. Handcent has been uninstalled and Go SMS is now on my phone. I like the interface on Handcent so much better, but I just can't tolerate it anymore.

I'll be checking Handcent periodically to see if new versions ever fix the problem, but until then, Go SMS it is.

4.3.5 Update

Now all texts sent to 9999999999@vtext.com come in 2 times. Good thing it only takes a few minutes to re-install Go SMS

4.3.8 has the same issues as 4.3.5. On top of that, once in a while I'll get about 10 duplicate texts in a row. I'm really hoping ICS will magically cure all of these bugs.

Unfortunately ICS did not magically cure the bugs, but they finally fixed the duplicate text issue with 4.5.1. It only took 5 1/2 months to endure, but better late than never. I probably won't be updating Handcent anytime soon since I'd like to enjoy it for a while before they break again with another update.
