Handling GPS

I understand this is user preference, but how are you handling GPS on this device?

Keeping it on?

Battery save, GPS or High Accuracy?

Mine started going berzerk today while my phone should have been sleep. I've revoked access to my location on numerous apps. So I'm just wondering what you guys are doing.

Battery save unless I'm using it for navigation.

What is the real-world implications of one over the other?

If I'm on GPS only and use Google Maps for navigation, will it take me where I need to go? If I google for a restaurant, will it find it? Will it just take longer to perform searches or what?

I guess I don't understand how the 3 GPS settings differ in real use, results, etc.

If your phone can't find a GPS signal and you are only using GPS then there would be an issue. If you had high accuracy on the phone could then use cell and Wi-Fi to find your location and where you want to go.

That's how I interpret it anyway.

Hm. I'm in the Dallas suburbs and would like to think my GPS signal is strong...I'm flipping to GPS only for a few days to see what happens

Well I've only been using battery saver, haven't had to use maps to navigate anywhere since I got the phone so...

Just habit really, that's how I ran my S4, battery save unless navigating then GPS or high accuracy. Haven't seen a reason to try it differently yet.

Using network plus gps could be faster. It uses network for rough location then hones in by gps. Also apps that access location that don't need precise location can cause higher drain when set on gps only

I've got a question for those of you who have used the GPS on the G4. I have a G2 and we all know how notorious the dog of a GPS is/was on that phone. It sometimes takes 20 minutes or more to get a lock. You need to think ahead for navigation. Does the G4 get a GPS lock on the satellites pretty quickly?

In my experience, yes, GPS lock is quick (10-15 seconds? Haven't timed it), even when set to GPS-only.

Battery Saver, but only since this morning.

Sporadically, I was seeing Google Services as an equal or higher % of my battery usage v screen after a few hours, which seemed odd. This morning I took and e-mailed 1 picture from my G4 (5.8mp in size). It took about 20 seconds to send, but then I had the two circular arrows at the top of my display for a good 15 mins afterwards. Obviously I can't say 100% what it was, but pretty sure it's location based. I've also tuned location tagging off for the camera as i don't need that.
