Hangouts Notification

Hi all,

I'm trying to find a way to change the Hangout Notification sound, I have given it permission to access storage for the purpose, but when I go to the app settings I have no title for Notifications so I can not select it to even try.

Anyone have some experience or thoughts on this.

I'm having the same problem, and I've tried the standard way of changing the notification sound:
Hangouts > Settings > SMS > Sound
No matter what sound I select, when I get a message the default sound always plays.
Is there another place to set the sound for Hangouts/SMS Messaging??

OK, I have managed to diagnose my problem, this may work for you also:
I was successful in importing a custom ringtone and custom default event tone, both .mp3 files. I placed them in the Ringtones and Notifications folders, respectively. Both worked fine, first time.

I imported a different custom tone that I was using on my N5 for the SMS incoming text notification. I placed this in the Notifications folder. But every time I got a text, I got the "Hangouts" tone on my phone. Even though I had changed it to my custom tone. This drove me crazy.

Tonight, I decided to try changing it to a different tone that was included in the list, "Elara". When I got a text message, the "Elara" tone sounded.

At this point, my only conclusion is that my custom tone will not work in Hangouts Notifications, but the included ones will. So just go to Hangouts > Settings > SMS > Notifications Sound, and select one you like. Leave a reply if it works for you.

OK, problem solved: Special Thanks to KUMOKGB, found in this very forum. The custom sounds located in the Notifications folder cannot be accessed by the Hangouts application by default. You must turn on the Storage permissions as follows:

Settings > Apps > Hangouts > Permissions > Storage > ON
