Happiness is owning a ThunderBolt!

ARE YOU ALL HIGH OR SOMETHING, OR SIMPLY ON VERIZON'S OR HTC'S PAYROLL?!!

I have owned my Thunderbolt since the day they went on sale (March 17th) and this phone, which I paid $249 for and had my contract extended for another two years, has NEVER worked right! Right from the start, this phone has had issues with losing data connectivity because it can't switch properly between 4G and 3G networks. I'm not sure if this was a problem with Verizon's 4G network, or a problem with HTC's hardware, but the end result is a problem for me, the customer. I also constantly use Google Navigation because I drive a tractor-trailer and I use the turn-by-turn directions to find my destinations. I got REAL tired of the Google Navigation, right in the middle of a trip, saying "searching for GPS". This would happen all the time, and it would stay like that all day long, until I backed out of the turn-by-turn directions and then restarted them (just the turn-by-turn directions, NOT Google Navigation itself), and sometimes even that wouldn't help! This is because the phone has some problem with its GPS signal. One time, the GPS wouldn't work for almost an entire week!

And then there's the OTA update PUT OUT BY VERIZON on or about May 12th, which basically rendered my phone useless due to the CONSTANT random reboots it started suffering (it NEVER, not even ONCE, rebooted on its own prior to that update), even rebooting right in the middle of phone calls! This update was supposed to, in addition to other issues, specifically improve data connectivity and GPS signal issues, niether of which seemed any better after I installed the update. So, basically the update just rendered my phone practically useless, and it's been that way for nearly 60 days now! I did download and install an update Friday night that is supposed to reduce random reboots, but it's too early to tell if that fixed my issues (it hasn't rebooted once since then, but it's gone as long as 4 or 5 days occasionally without rebooting before).

Oh, one other thing - the free mobile hotspot is no more, at least if you downloaded & installed Friday's OTA update. With all the problems I've had with this phone, I should have free mobile hotspot through the end of the year as compensation.

I generally like HTC phones, and I do like the Thunderbolt, but in terms of working as it was advertised to, this has got to be the worst phone I've ever owned! And, the forums all over the web are rife with people complaining about the very same problems on their Thunderbolts I've experienced with mine, so I know it's not just me or my phone in particular.

I'm glad you're happy with your Thunderbolt, but that has NOT been my experience!

Dennis

I agree one one point - people must be "on" something. Happiness is owning a ThunderBolt?!

Oh PLEASE.

Yes, I know, I get it - it is a nice phone and some are (for the most part) very pleased with it and they are simply expressing their pleasure on the appropriate forum.

But get over it. It's just a phone. Do you also wear T-Shirts the say I LOVE MY SMARTPHONE?
Do people have bumper stickers on their cars that say; "I (heart) my Thunderbolt?

People here like to make fun of the Apple zombies - but I see no difference between them and the Android zombies. Is this the geeks version of "supporting" their favorite sports team?

Yeah, I have a Thunderbolt and it works OK. But it's not like I invented or designed it, all I did was buy the thing. I have no love for it or pride in owning it. I will have it for a year or two and then get something else.

-- Sorry Dennis, I got side tracked here, none of this was directed at you.

I think the idea is that people on these boards have been overly negative by hyperbolizing their issue and that it would be nice to have a little positivity. The phone is really great, and its issues has been blown way out of proportion. A little happiness never hurt anybody!

Yeah, I know. I'm a wet blanket sometimes, but it's just a phone that people are going to have for a short time, before getting another one.

I don't see the need to justify a purchase to strangers on a forum. I buy what I buy, and I don't care what other people think.

A little happiness never hurt anybody.... true. :) But I have much better things to be happy about in my life, my cell phone choice (which is the TB and it's fine) didn't even make the list. :)

I'm glad you like your phone, and wish you much happiness in your life (in addition to your phone of choice) - cheers.

I thought happiness was a warm puppy? :)

Anyway, without getting all warm and fuzzy inside, I must say I am satisfied with my purchase.

Now, where's my t-shirt?

Sounds like a great business opportunity! Anyone interested in partnering up?

Sorry Mike, but I think one reason strangers come to the forums is to find out what we do and don't like about our phones to help them make a decision. They need to see more than just the negative comments and understand that there's a lot of us not having problems that are happy with our choice. Describing what we like about it isn't the same as justifying our purchase.

Perhaps I was confusing the bickering between the "haters" and the "lovers" of this phone with justification on the "lovers" side.

I see your point.

Too bad they fixed the rebooting. I had a great idea for T-Shirts:

I (heart) my Thunde.... [rebooting]
I (heart) m... [rebooting]
I (heart) my Thunderb.... [rebooting]
I (hear..... [rebooting]
I.... [rebooting]
I (heart) my Thunderbolt!

One more to add.... the kickstand! It is just flat out awesome in functionality, as well as aesthetics! The few other phones out there with a kickstand just don't compare (they're either too small or don't look very good on the phone). For me, the kickstand is a must! I use it all the time. :p

Really?!! Are you loving how you can't plug the power cord into the phone when you're using the kickstand because the port is ON THE BOTTOM of the phone?!!

If you hate the phone so much, you should have returned it before your 14 days were up! No one forced you to keep it. I love my Thunderbolt. Definitely has not been a dissapointment.

Don't tell me I should've returned my phone within the first 14 days - the problems with data connectivity and GPS signal were not bad enough at first to return it, but they started getting progressively worse as time wore on. Then, coupled with an OTA update put out by our own service provider that, for all intents and purposes, practically bricked my phone, just exacerbated an already bad situation. On top of that, the fact I've been made to live with MANY, MANY random reboots for nearly 60 days is just inexcusable; it's made my experience with this phone, which I REALLY loved at first, the worst cell phone experience I've EVER had!

On top of that, I was sent TWO Droid Charges to replace my defective Thunderbolt - those two phones had even MORE problems than my Thunderbolt, so I ended-up sending those back and keeping the T-Bolt.

i lucked out the day i got my phone the update kicked on while it was being set up by tech at costco i was worried about getting this phone because of the horror stories i have heard i thought the update was the 1.4 or 1.34? the one causing all the problems but found out it was the good one then i got home and saw all the posts about new update and i said yipee!! this bad boy does eveything better than my plum 3gs [name changed to protect the doofus phone] so happy :) :) :D

"Hyperbolizing our issues"?!!

Verizon knows EXACTLY how many times our phones reboot - their system has a record of every single time the phone is shut down and every time it restarts. When I called to complain about my Thunderbolt and request a Droid Charge as a replacement, the rep looked in his system and saw exactly how often my phone was rebooting. He immediately agreed to send me a Droid Charge (too bad THAT phone turned-out to be an even bigger piece of crap than the T-Bolt)!

No one is exaggerating anything.

I'm not saying that you're hyperbolizing your particular situation, but not everyone has had that many reboots, and the issue is a lot less widespread as someone who has had them might think.

I have to agree with all the positive posts. I started years ago with my first smartphone (Moto Q) then a BB Curve, Storm 1 and 2, then to a Droid 2, and now a TB. I only experienced 4 or 5 reboots a week before this last update and GPS always worked for navigation although it did take a minute or so to lock, now locks in seconds. By far this is the best smartphone I have owned.

You consider 4 or 5 reboots a week acceptable?!! Wow!

Does your PC randomly reboot 4 or 5 times a week? Would THAT also be acceptable to you?!!

I'm sorry, but my $250 smartphone should not be randomly rebooting AT ALL!!!
