Haptic feedback randomly shuts off

Haptic feedback is randomly shutting off on my phone. Usually I'll be typing a text or email and after a few letters its off. The quickest way for me to get it back is to actually tap the back of the phone, which strongly leads me to believe this is a hardware issue. Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, did you devise any methods to solve it? Thanks!

sounds to be a hardware issue and unless you want to keep taping the back of the phone i would take ito verizon and get it replaced

Thanks. My first preference would be to avoid getting a new phone (unless it's an incredible 2 so if anyone has had any luck tinkering on the back of the phone, that would be much appreciated!

It happened to me after having the phone a few weeks. Verizon gave me a new one. It was within 30 days (remember those days) so they didn't question or do too much other than open a box and give me a new phone.

Is it checked in settings?

Verizon will check everything before deciding to switch out. Also means might doing a reset.

This happened to me on my Inc too. After I got frustrated enough I just turned mine off. I actually wound up liking it better, because it removed some lag during typing. I've turned it off on my Inc 2, as well.

Out of curiosity, were any of you who've experienced this problem using a non-stock keyboard? There are times that I wonder if this is a software issue as well.

When I was using Sense & the Sense keyboard, I had this problem a lot. I didn't realize til now that I haven't experienced the issue (or, at least I haven't noticed...) since switching to a new launcher (Launcher Pro) and a new keyboard (Swiftkey).

I can't guarantee this resolves the issue for anyone else.

Interesting. This could be further proof that this is actually a software issue. I have noticed that there are times when haptic feedback will be off, and, as I'm typing, it mysteriously turns on again. I wonder if an app I recently updated is causing this. Seems like anything is possible when it comes to software issues and android...

I'd bet on software being the issue.

Every now and then, my phone rings, but it's not the ring tone I have set for all calls.

I was using the stock sense keyboard.... Strange thing was, after a time without typing, the haptic feeback would trickle back on, but lag horribly. So my guess is a software issue too.

I had a dinc, bot now I have a tbolt.. I did have the same problem on my dinc which is described by the author of this blog. In my opinion, it might be the processor that's being overworked which causes it to lag and for the heptic feed back to turn off.. It annoyed me at first, but as you keep typing, it comes back. I usually noticed this happening when I wrote lengthy emails or text messages. And no, I was using the stock htc qwerty keyboard. Now, I use swype on my tbolt with the heptic feedback off..

I'm more than 50% convinced this is a software issue now. I'm wondering if I should try to reduce some of my running services to free up memory. It seems like this tends to happen when the phone gets bogged down, so freeing up some resources could do the trick. I'll tinker with it and let folks know. Thanks everyone!

If you can, just buy Swiftkey & adjust its settings to suit your preferences. After adjusting Swiftkey settings for my own preferences, I honestly don't even want to go back to the HTC keyboard - as good as it was.

Oh, I'm using SwiftKey X and absolutely love it to death. I have a couple other keyboards installed as well, so one of the things I'm going to try to do is simply uninstall those. They're currently not active, so I doubt this will have any effect, but it's a place to start!

I agree, the HTC keyboard seems like a thing of the past compared to SwiftKey.
