Hardware Making a Difference?

Somewhere, Virgin's website maybe, I saw the processor speed of a phone and it said for better internet speeds. Now I know 3g only can go so fast but would a faster processor help me get to that limit? I'm currently running an Optimus V and get ~50kbps (slow as !) so if I went to the HTC One V with a 1ghz processor would it be faster?

In your case I think you're limited by the network speed primarily. The faster processor wouldn't make much of a difference in your case. Now, there are other things that are better about the One xV (camera and display), but those also won't make your network speed any faster.

CPU is only used to process data that is about to send so it's mostly effect upload time, for example encoding data, but CPU are so fast that in this case it's not so notable, besides in case of HTTP messages are not so large (or else you upload file). but if data is not encoded it does stright to network and CPU just order to do it.

Keep in the numbers that ISP adrvitise are just technical maximum bandwidth, but in reality it's econenction speed effected on so many factors that they can't guaranty you consistent speed... and i talking here about cable connections, in mobile networks (this includes also Wifi) the speed is effected even ferhter, by reception, how far are you form the base tower, how many people use base tower, your surrounding, i bet you will never see mobile connection that will run on full technical speed, thats why mobile networks thru they getting faster they are still quite unstable on speed and the reason why your connection is slow
