Has anyone had this issue, Original Samsung MHL to HDMI adapter will no longer seat into my phone?

The device is awesome and I used it all the time. Then one day the plug would no longer fit into my phone. Prior to discovering this issue, I bought a second one to use in different room and the new one doesn't fit my phone either. My charger still fits the phone fine, but the MHL to HDMI adapter will just not slide all the way in, even with strong force. I'm at a loss for what could have possibly changed, that they no longer fit; it's like something morphed. I tried to look inside to see if something happened inside the phone port, but can't see anything. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
