I just now noticed there are different classes/ speeds for sd cards, I just assumed the difference in sd cards were crappy cheap made brands and good more expensive better made cards by better brands but guess I was wrong.
It looks like there is a big difference so what I am wondering is if I ended up buying the really cheap micro sd cards from micro center will there be a difference on this phone? (I keep thinking of the 3 mega pixel camera and the no flash support because the processor is too slow to run it so maybe the slower sd cards wouldn't make a difference cuz our phones are slower at processing things????)

What are the applications for Speed Class?
Class 2 : H.264 video recording, MPEG-4, MPEG-2 video recording
Class 4: MEPG-2 (HDTV) video recording, digital still camera (DSC) consecutive photo shooting
Class 6: Mega-pixel DSC consecutive photo shooting, professional video camera
Class 10: Full HD video recording, HD still picture consecutive shooting

What is the SD Speed Class?
The SD Association has established standards that rate the minimum data transfer in SD, SDHC, SDXC, SDHC UHS-I and SDXC UHS-I memory cards and devices. The speed rates were established based on the needs of movie and video companies because video recording requires certain writing speeds when recording the data onto a memory card. The SD Speed Class and UHS Speed Class standardized the specification for both memory cards and devices in order to guarantee minimum writing speeds and deliver the best performance.

Lot's of people find out that with our phones that if you use a slower (lower class) sd card it dismounts all the time without them doing it. So yes if you get a lower class card you will notice a difference because that will probably happen to you. Also I've always used my class 6 sd card but if you use a class 2 or 4 I'd assume that it would make apps run slower that you put on your sd card.

And btw our phone doesn't have a flash not because the proccessor can't handle it, its just because it's a cheaper phone, my old Virgin Mobile Wild Card had a flash in it (I paid alot of money for that thing back in the day way more than my optimus) and if that one was fast enough to have a flash and my optimus didn't that would be pretty sad, so its a good thing thats not the case.

By flash he means adobe and a version was recently made that runs on this phone

Also that class on sd cards is for read/write speed (class 10=10mbps, etc) so the higher the class the faster it performs. I have a class 4 card and data2ext and have 0 problems.

If your phone is rooted you can use an application called SD Booster to make it faster.

Re: has anyone noticed a difference in different "class" sd cards

When i got this phone at radio shack i asked the salesman if the phone is compatible with adobe flash player. He said the processor is too slow and if we tried to run flash 10 or games that require adobe flash 10 that the phone would crash but it can handle easier stuff like YouTube and most of the games in the market. I think i saw a post for the flash player we can now use and i can't wait to try it out unfortunately my phone is too full so as soon as i can flash a backup & a new ROM I've gotta try it.
thanks for all the info!

ooh lol when you said it had a 3 mp camera and no flash i thought you meant a camera flash.

but yea our phones don't support adobe flash

Re: has anyone noticed a difference in different "class" sd cards

Class 10 for our phones is probably unnecessary unless you're doing lots of file transfers
back-forth from the phone to the PC. Class 6 is your best bet for performance and price.

I'm using a 16GB Adata Class-6 I got off newegg and have never had glitches due to the SD card.
No unmounts, no crashes, etc. Transferring files back/forth to PC are also quite fast.

I'd recommend Class 10 for Tablets and the newer 4G or 3D / HD class phones that would really
take advantage of it and play HD movies - at that point Class 10 is definitely worth it.

Also for 7-10" tablets that can do gaming, definitely need a Class 10 card because of all the
data transfer from SD card - some of those games use up to 1GB of storage for external files!

Thank you doesitmatter that really helped clear it up better for me

Re: has anyone noticed a difference in different "class" sd cards

The class rating is for minimum write speed. Often the read speed is significantly higher than the write speed, even on lower "class" sd cards to the point you might not even notice any difference. It will depend on the card though. Most mobile phone usage will skew greatly towards reads over writes so whether you see a difference will also depend on your usage. Also some earlier phones had micro controllers which couldn't access cards at full speed so adding a high speed card would have been wasted on those phones.

Having said that, I always recommend, class 6 for mobile phones, just because if you are ever transferring large amounts of files to the card possibly through your PC, it works significantly faster and the price difference isn't huge.
