Has Verizon lost their collective minds?

I have my own thoughts but I'm interested in yours, so I got 2 questions for ya'll. Since some seem to just balk, giggle & poke at others opinions w/out giving their own;

1. What differences constitute a feature phone from a smartphone for you?

2. Given the reaponse from question #1. What phone do you consider to be the first "true" entry in the era of smartphones?

I actually really like this H.A.G.G. (Sorry but I can't type your name without laughing)

My answers:
1) A true underlying O/S. Not just a firmware layer that sits there to spit out 1's and 0's to the plug-in applications. To me, a smartphone is a portable computer that makes damn good phone calls.

Which bleeds into
2) Android. Every other mobile O/S has not been so, even iOS(as far as I know) doesn't have a platform underneath that is accessible without the GUI.

When the storm came out what was the defining difference in performance between that and th LG env touch? Both had web browsers and from my recollection (which may be way off) was that a smart phone was a $30 plane and a phone like LG env touch was a $15 plan.

Back than it was a pricepoint for a smart phone. Now it is based on performance.

Nope back then even today real browser real apps better build quality better performce. Back then it the smart phone market was just started to move from corporate world to consumer use. The lg couldn't hold a torch to bb or even the windows phone at the time. Also remember the iPhone come along and changed the consumer view on dumb phones

Coming from the eNV to the Dare(briefly), the Omnia was such a breath of fresh air. Even though both of the Omnia's grew quite stale by the time the Droids released.

enV to an enV Touch to the Droid X. After that, I wasn't looking back.

I think what defines smart phones now is the OS: Does it have a model specific OS or is the OS spread across many devices.

1. A phone with advanced PDA functionality.

2. First true smartphone? There was probably a Palm or Windows Mobile device one could consider as the first smartphone. Maybe even something earlier.
