Hasselblad True Zoom Camera Moto Mod

This mod just doesn't go quite far enough in terms of sensor size and megapixels. It's comparable to most other top-of-the-line smartphone cameras. The only true thing that sets it apart is the optical zoom, which is definitely nice to have if you need it. I'm a photographer and was hoping to see higher quality. I really thought that since they had all of this extra space to play with that we might see a sensor comparable to the mirrorless cameras out there now. Those get close to DSLR quality in a small package. Although the price would have been much higher at that point. Nonetheless, I'm still happy to see new mods being announced and am excited to see if any third parties get involved with the developer kit.

It's a shame. Wonder what kind of improvements they could've made at a $300 price point...

It's easy to say that but that is the price point on Motorola. I think less emphasis on the zoom and more on it being superior to cell phone cameras overall with a bigger sensor was the way to go. But smart people have said a bigger sensor would take it to the $500 price point. I don't know, but for me there's little interest now unless it goes into the clearance bin for seventy bucks.

We'll have to wait for another attempt. This was always a zoom camera.

The advertised price point is 299.00 Verizon is offering a 50.00 discount. I am really torn on this Mod. The geek in me wants it and the accountant in me says NO!

I might buy it for 250. Once I have a Moto Z Play, that is. (Waiting to pay off my MXPE.) The zoom with image stabilization sells it for me.

I'm concerned they will come out with a better version in a year to so, with more MP, faster focus, etc.

So, when I saw this mod I thought I had to have it. Then I saw some reviews where they were underwhelmed with it and I wasn't sure. But I had trouble getting a decent shot of my kids playing sports (indoor, hockey (so it was fast)) with the stock camera. Tried other apps to get a 'sport' mode, but couldn't get a clear pic without blur. So since I like gadgets, and now had a real reason to try it, I bought it.

Random thoughts: Couple things I didn't know from the reviews I saw were that it had a couple different scenes, including a sport mode. That worked great for taking action shots. There is a delay taking the pic due to the focus, but when you start anticipating that, it works good. The flash fully lights a completely dark room. At full zoom, the physical camera button is hard to press without a shake, but you can use the screen's shutter button, and it works great. The'chin' at the bottom of the phone that people complain about makes this easy and comfortable to hold. It feels well made, and is fun to use. The optical zoom makes a huge difference in getting close to the action when you cannot move closer yourself, like a sports event.

I was on the fence, but after having it 1 day, I think I totally made the right decision. I like all the mods (I have the battery and speaker), but this will easily end up being my favorite.

They also just realeased the first update for this mod. I was instructed to download it when I attached the mod to take photos at a wedding. Seemed to work very well in low light. I am happy with the purchase so far. I am trying to find the list of improvements for the update.

Curious to see what kind of Black Friday sales we'll see

Any updates on this?
Especially after any software updates?

I'm on the fence on getting it.
I have gift cards, so I'd essentially only be coming out of pockets for about $100.

My gut says yes. Especially at that price point. But I have the lingering feeling of no as well due to Youtube and other reviews.

If you have gift cards and looking for stuff to buy...
have you bought Google Home yet? Loving it so much after a couple weeks.

Any new reviews of this? I'd like to know if any updates made these better? I know the original reviews were only so-so.
