Have some concerns before buying...

I finally got to see one and play with a GN 8 at Best Buy today. I can't believe how different it was than my Galaxy Note 10.1. They have in Store Samsung Reps and one helped me. I couldn't figure out the Multi-view and how to get it activated. This and some things like changing background on S Notes, took me awhile to find. My first impressions were I'm very Impressed with it. It took nice clear pictures, Speakers didn't sound bad, really smooth, and it's a bit wider than I thought. I've don't have small hands and although I can hold it in one hand, It's a stretch and probably would be a pain to hold that way for a long period of time. If I was like I was when I bought my Galaxy S lll and GN 10.1, I would have bought it on the spot. Even though I still think it's a bit overpriced. I would gladly pay that price for a 32gb.
The Samsung Rep was nice and asked me my thoughts, and I echoed my concerns and many people's concerns with the Price, number one. Then I looked at the on board Memory and it was under 8.9 gb after the apps and OS. There was nothing big loaded on it and it's already down to half it's memory? That's a big concern for me. I use my 10.1 for Drawing and maybe would use the 8 for some also, but my 10.1 makes more sense for that. I would probably use the 8 for taking notes and portability, which the 10.1 is kind of big for portability. To me anyways. I asked the rep to check if Samsung Plans on making a 32gb and maybe a darker color. I gave my email address and hopefully I'll get some info back on that. Including the price of a 32gb. I'd much rather get a 32gb, because I do play a lot of games, not major big ones that take up a lot of memory, but still want the extra memory. Maybe I could get by with only 8 or 9gb left, what's your thoughts on the On board memory left after you first get it? The price is still a major thing to me though. By the time you get extended warranty and a 32gb micro SD card, i'm over $500. I think I'm better off waiting at least a few weeks more. If I decide to get it, I want a case first and can find one on Amazon I'm sure. The two at Best Buy were way overpriced and the Belkin folio was cheap looking. Can anyone address if some of my concerns? Thanks. I'm willing to wait a bit if I have to, to get it. This is a luxury for me, I don't need one, but want one. It's more the size that appeals to me more than anything after owning an Ipad mini, which was returned.
My concerns are:
1. The Price, would like to see if any sales come soon.
2. If I should wait for a 32gb model
3. If I go with a 16gb, Is it worth it with the on board memory that's left? Even if I put music/videos on Sd Card.
4. Hoping another color comes out. This is not a major deterent as the case will cover most of it, my GS lll is white, but I would prefer a darker color.

l LOVE mine. After all my apps are on I'm at 8.5 gb of memory. while irritating I've never found it a problem to have 16GB Version, S3, Note 2, and transformer prime, a nd now the note 8. I've never come close, to using the space. and yes l do al ways use a SD Card for main storage!

If you're planning to hold 4 or 5 big games on it at one time, you're going to constantly be running up against space constraints with the 16GB version. Otherwise, you should be able to deal with 16GB and an SD card slot.

I will probably play a lot of games on it when out with it, but not sure if any really big games. On my 10.1, i have a lot of Apps and games on it, or of 32gb i have maybe 23gb left. Music and videos on the sd card. So i may be able to get away with the 16gb.
After finally playing with one at best buy this week, I'm really amped up to get one now. Forcing myself to wait a little bit longer. I'll be mad if i go get one and a month or two later they come out with the 32gb. Makes no sense to me why they limited the device to one color and 16gb only. Even my GN 10.1 came out with two colors in 16gb and one color in 32gb. I'm also waiting to get some accessories before i get one, at the stores too expensive. I can get a case, screen protectors, and a 32gb card on amazon for a little less than the cost of one case at best buy. Plus i don't like the Samsung book cover case

I just got off the phone with a Samsung customer service rep and asked about if a 32gb version is coming out and if another color. He said nothing has been noted to them yet and so he really couldn't say. He did do some checking though, so it wasn't just a quick answer. He said if he was to bet, maybe in a month or two check back, because the pattern in the past has been to have more than just one version of their devices. Not sure if I'm willing to wait another month or two to get it, if there is even a 32gb that comes out in the future. He didn't really address the color question. So I guess I'll wait another week or so, maybe order the accessories and go get one.

On my phone which is a 32gb, I have 24.7gb left on board, not counting my 32 gb SD card. On my GN 10.1 which is 32gb, I have 23.3 gb left, plus 32 gb sd card. If I use my 10.1 as my main tablet, it should be enough for me. So probably will do alright with 16gb and a 32gb card. I have 1.6gb of apps on my 10.1, which would leave me with about 7gb left if i even put all of them on the GN 8. I'll probably end up getting one sooner than later, because I was waiting for months before it actually came out.

With Google I/O weeks away, and a heavily rumored Nexus 7 update in the works (not to mention the badly needed ipad mini refreash) I think it would be a fairly safe bet that you would see the additional colors and larger sizes become available in the next month or two.

Personally, at $400, it isn't compelling enough for me to jump on until well after Google I/O.

I think you will see other options, but I am not sure it will be based on Google I/O. I feel that Samsung takes its time with new releases. If you look at their other devices you will see that new colors have come out, but some have taken quite a long time. Even adding LTE to the Note 10.1 took a very long time. I think if you aren't in a rush and don't mind waiting, then waiting will always lead to better deal. It is just a question of how long are you willing to wait and then what do you do when the next rumored device comes along. For example, by the time a black Note 8.0 comes out, you will probably start hearing rumors about the next Galaxy Note 10.1. Never-ending cycle.

I agree unashamed geek with what you said about by the time the Black comes out, I'll probably be hearing about the new 10.1 GN. I'm quite happy with my 10.1 though, so not in any rush to get a better one. That does everything I need. Like I said, the GN 8 is more a luxury than a need. I am a device junkie though. I want the 8 more for taking it around with me to dr. appointments.(I'm taking care of sick elderly parents, so spend a lot of time at dr. appointments) and for taking when I'm on the go, because I do use my GS lll when there, but the 8" size GN is a much better size for me. Plus I want to replace all the paper notes everywhere on my desk and just have my GN 8 there for note taking. My 10.1 I use mostly for Drawing, internet, and some gaming. I just ordered the case, screen protectors, and 32gb sd card for the GN8. I'm not sure I'll need the 32gb version like I thought I would. On my 32gb phone and GN 10.1, after all I have on them, I'm left with just as much on board memory as if I got the GN 8 16gb, meaning if they were 16gb devices instead of 32gb. With the 10.1 being my main use tablet, that has more than enough memory to last me.

I am still going to wait a couple of weeks. Maybe something will pop up, but once I get the accessories, it'll be hard to keep me from going to best buy to get one. I am also deterred by the price, I really wish it was more in the $300-$350 range. So who knows what will happen. I do know, that it'll be hard to wait another month or two for any new ones. I've been on the internet reading about the GN8 since I first heard rumors of one coming out. So been waiting a long time already and have been wanting one.
