Have you cracked your Nexus 4 yet?

This thread hurts my genitals, and is giving me nightmares, what is a diamond file?

As the name implies, it's a file covered in little tiny industrial diamonds. They make short work of just about anything you want to file down, especially harder metals that a normal metal file doesn't work on. They will instantly scratch just about anything they touch, too.

My buddy's wife put hers on her purse for a second, slipped 4", cracked front glass. They're both pissed. Not a big fall, a 4 inch slide. Barely moving.

I got mine delivered few days ago. Left it on my glass TV stand (approximately ~1.5ft high) and it slid from it and screen cracked & touch sensor is dead. Sending it to LG today to fix it, though I don't know how much it will cost.

This is why I have a XTreme Guard full body protection sitting at the house waiting to install on the 4 when it gets here..

That will stay on even after I put the Otterbox (if they make one) or Trident on it....

This is really ridiculous how fragile these things are.

In a year, you're going to see a lot of 4s for sale with either 'been in a case from day 1' or 'broken back'/'small crack in screen' on ebay...

1.5ft? you kidding me?
Looks like this thing may be more sensitive than I thought...

I'd attribute that more to bad luck (and a precise angle) than sensitivity or fragility. These phones are made of glass, and if they suffer a sufficiently strong impact at the right location and at the right angle, they will crack or break. It does not mean that they will break if dropped, it all depends on how it lands. Look at the post about the scratch test on the broken phone: he tried everything he had available, and the only thing that scratched it was a diamond file (unsurprising). And yet, another poster's phone slides across the floor and gets a multitude of hairline scratches across the back.

Long story short: be mindful of where you place or stuff your phone, and if it escapes into the hands of gravity... pray. :p

God this thread is making me sick to my stomach... Get a freaking case guys. Oh and a screen protector. Not saying anything would have saved the phone involved in the motorcycle accident but holy crap!! I had to wait almost a month for my N4 and it felt like eternity. lol. What are you guys doing? :)

What about a Squaretrade warranty? Don't they cover all damage (including water damage)? Seems almost like a no-brainer for me, other than the fact that you'll have to wait to receive the replacement...

This is a deal-"breaker" for me...this phone looks like the most easily broken phone on the market right now....
I really want this phone too, but with my track record, it prolly wouldn't last 2 months..

Don't let the paranoia dig in. Yes phones break, and you'll hear horror stories about how fragile this phone is, just like we did with the iPhone 4 and 4s. Keep in mind, however, that Consumer Reports found that only 15% of their respondents reported getting a new phone because the old one broke. Even assuming some users would keep using a phone with a cracked yet functional screen (or back), that's a pretty low number. You hear about cracked screens and the like because it's sensational, not because it's common.

The phone does crack. Mine did. No drops. A hairline crack about an inch right above the camera. Very gentle use as I'm still waiting for cases to ship for Amazon. The crack is tiny that I was not able to make a good picture to show it but is definitely can be felt. I think it might have dropped when I placed the phone on the cold granite counter - just my guess.

What use is a beautiful phone...if you need a huge case to protect it? Reminds me of the iphone 4/4s. I really did like the design of the actual phone. But people were nuts to own one without a case.

It is like buying a ferrari, made out of a material that needs a huge rubber bumper over the whole thing to protect it. What's the point?

And before you say...it is not designed to be dropped i get that...but at the same time a product needs to be deigned for what it is intended to do. Here be used, constantly. And inevitably dropped, even if six inches onto a surface.

LG cannot win. First people were whining when the S3 came out with its fugly yet durable polycarbonate shell, and now finally an amazingly awesome glass Android smartphone comes out that demands babying and its being bashed too?

Well if it was made from something other than GLASS with a nice design wouldn't be any complaints.

I still want the phone, I'm getting a case for it because I'm not like the Apple fans,i buy a phone for FUNCTION not form.

Yes, it looks nice, but glass? Even Apple learned from that mistake

Glass is a premium material and gives the N4 a high quality feel and look. I love it but just have to be carful with it as everyone else should be. The glass build is one of the major reason why I got my Nexus 4. I personally am tired of plastic devices. Being also an iPhone user I appreciate materials like, glass, aluminum and stainless steel.

BTW there's no way I'm gonna but my Nexus 4 in a case because it's just too beautiful.

yes, and it's slippery too...imo just an accident waiting to happen...and from the sounds of things, it won't take much of an accident to make you cry with dismay over your beloved phone....

Well I'm smart enough to case it up because it's going to be ugly when it breaks.

Eventually it will slip and break

Yeah at some point you have to forget about looks when the only thing youre gonna be looking at is cracked glass when it finally accidentally slips from your hand lol. It's pretty inevitable with glass objects.

Unfortunately there really are no sturdy cases yet available.

EBay.

I learned my lesson about cases.

The one i had my gs3 in literally fell apart and as I'm walking onto the train, someone ran into me hard and it fell.

Now i have a broken screen that costs more for the part than an insurance replacement

Hustle man the same thing happened to me at the gym. I had bought a case from eBay and everytime it would slip out of my pocket the phone would land on its back on the ground and the case would pop right off from any height. I didn't break my screen though thankfully.
