No problem. Glad to see you got it installed. Keep the file for backup and possibly consider downloading the 4.4 Factory Image for the Nexus 5 (Hammerhead) just in case you need to restore it. Restoring to factory image is almost the same, so you have a good idea of what needs to be done.

Ah, duly noted. I've downloaded 4.4's factory image as my back up.

So far, 4.4.1 is nice. The camera is definitely faster and the picture quality marginally better (so far).

I am having the same issue with the file not found thing on my mac. any chance you could PM me whatever was the fixing point for you?

I PM-ed you with the same thing, but I'm going to post it here too since I think a lot of people who aren't familiar with Terminal can benefit from these instructions (again, thanks to srkmagnus for teaching me this).

I think step 10 is super vague for people who don't know how to use Terminal. All it says is "In Terminal, navigate to the folder where the zip file is." But if you've never navigated to a folder in Terminal, you don't even know how to do that. So here it is:



The issue I had was I didn't realize I had to actually write the letters "cd" in front of the file path in Terminal.

So, for example, once I got to steps 10 and 11, I had to open Terminal, and then type in:

cd users/usersname/foldername/sdk/platform-tools

-usersname = your computer name
-foldername = the ADB folder. Should be something along the lines of "adt-bundle-mac-x86_64-20131030"
-And note the space after "cd" BTW!

An easy way to save you time is just to go directly to the "platform-tools" folder on your actual computer then right click it and hit "Copy platform-tools" and then go back to Terminal and just type:

cd [then paste what you copied. Again, note the space after cd.]

Either way, you hit ENTER. This will take the Terminal to that folder. Then, you type in:

./adb sideload KITKAT.zip

-KITKAT = the actual name of the zip file of 4.4.1 (make sure you downloaded the one for the Nexus 5). You can actually rename the zip file to anything you want to make it easier. It's case sensitive so just type it as you have it named.

Hit ENTER and you should see the installation process begin right in the Terminal window. Eventually, the phone will be ready for you to reboot, and then boom, you'll have 4.4.1.

Have you tried redownloading the update? Make sure you are downloading from the direct Google download link.

For some reason adb didn't want to sideload the update. I spent 30 minutes fighting with it to get it to send the update over. Finally worked and I am loving the update other than one small problem. Before the update my Nexus 5 would want to drop the WiFi signal then, within a few seconds, reconnect. Unchecking 'Avoid Poor Connections' worked, but after the update it has started to do it again and the option is unchecked, along with the optimization option. It's not a huge deal as it only happens for a few seconds and the N5 seamlessly moves from WiFi to LTE and back to Wifi but it is extremely annoying that a device as expensive as the Nexus 5 has a software problem like this.

Seems like the vibration feels much better (used to feel a bit loose), the speaker is much louder, and overall things are a little bit more smooth. Could be my imagination but the battery life seems to have taken a small jump on the longer side.

Thanks! It worked now, It seems that if you download the update via Safari using a Macbook the .zip file will unzip automatically and then if you compress it using the default mac program it won't work. So I download the update using Chrome and the file didn't unzip automatically, then it worked.

When using Mac/Safari, just right click and select "download linked file as", give it a new name (like KitKat.zip), and pick a destination folder. It won't automatically unzip it.

I think I just got it. There was a greyed out download arrow and I looked in notifications and it said 4.4.1 downloaded but in About Phone it still says 4.4

If you downloaded the update it should have installed. Try a reboot maybe and see if that triggers the update process?
