Thought that might you also meant. Yeah mines has no issues.

You could try clearing your cache. See if that helps.

I can't believe the appearance of emojis determines one's happiness with a phone. I knew that iPhone folks were all about form over function but I wanted to believe that it was a myth.

We don't know this person's age. I know a lot of younger folks who can't live without them. It's a thing. :)

The reason I bought this phone is because I owned an iPhone 6 which was 2.5 years old and started to wear down. I LOVE the way it looks, thats the biggest reason I bought it. But I hate some 'android' or 'samsung' things that I miss having on the iPhone. I'll list them:

  • Camera preview slow!
  • Notifications don't light up screen (third party app needed)
  • iOS emojis look way better (knew this before though)
  • Can't use emojis on quickmessage

The top one is the one I hate the most. I use snapchat a lot and it was so fluid on iPhone like it was like looking at a mirror (fps wise, not quality). But on this phone the camera preview is SO SLOW. It bothers me to hell. Now I accidently opened Facebook camera today which didn't had the preview camera lagg and ALL other 3rd party apps I tried did lagg. I wish the snapchat camera was the same as Facebook's.

If you get a notification the screen doesn't light up, there is a workaround by downloading a 3rd party app but just wish they had implemented it in the settings.

God, the Samsung emojis look awful compared to Apple's. Well, I knew this before but still I hate it .. I heard there is a workaround by rooting the phone but its my first week of owning an android phone and don't feel like breaking it already, haven't looked into it much though.

When watching a movie on your phone and you get a message and want to quickly reply while just keeping the movie open you can slide down the notification and do a quick reply just like on iOS. But the downside is that you can't use emojis in the quick reply which is a huge bummer for me because I use them in almost all my messages.

Well, these were my biggest issues with the new Galaxy S8. For the rest, I really like the phone though. If there are any solutions for my problems, make sure to leave a comment. I would greatly appreciate it :)

Re: the screen not lighting up for notifications, the S8 has an led notification light doesn't it? I customize the led notification colors for the apps that allow it on my S6. I always thought that was something that iOS would benefit from...and why the screen doesn't light up on most Android devices for notifications. Might be something to try :-)

I miss the banner notification previews at the top of the screen when using my phone. And my apple watch is now retired. Other than that I cannot complain. :)

Nope. I know iPhone users that wont swiutch to Android specifically for that reason. Dont get me wrong I do prefer iOS emojis over Samsungs/Google but its by no means a dealbreaker.

Tomato or Tomatto...

I am one of the few that prefers the look and feel of Windows Phone. Made switch to iPhone after MS killed off Nokia and just recently picked up an S8 for many of the same reasons as the original poster. S8 is a beautiful phone. Android has come a long way but there are so many tweaks it overwhelming.

Simple solution. Return the s8 and buy an iPhone 7.

I do think there is a problem with your individual phone if you are having lag on the camera display. I've never seen that on any phone. The S8 has been praised for its fast focus, something I don't think would happen if the display itself was lagging.

As for emojis, well, it is interesting to hear what other people look for in a phone. I think you could completely remove them from mine and it would take me many months to notice. Looking at the textra list sfla posted, I can't see any difference in quality. That is probably due to my lack of experience with them?

Can't complain about camera performance, but I've nonetheless switched back to iOS. In my opinion, the iPhone just offers better performance, a much better ecosystem and better performing apps. The S8+ is beautiful, but it's not flawless. I hated the Bixby button (remapped it but it's still superfluous) missed iMessage and Facetime, the seamless integration with my car's audio system etc. Also, I got three consecutive phones with various degrees of pink eye (aka the pink tint issue) and since Samsung still hasn't released the patch in Switzerland, this hasn't exactly improved my view on all things Samsung.

Thank you for all your replies.

I have found the problem with the camera lagg. Apperently its the device slowing down the shutter speed to get more light into the camera to brighten up the image. This causes the preview to be laggy because the shutter speed will be slower. You can test that by going to your back camera and try pro mode and set the shutter speed (if I'm not mistaking) lower or higher, you can see the difference of fps in the preview.

Anybody knows if there is a workaround for that (changing the default shutter speed)? There is a workaround by downloading third party apps which do that but I want to change it directly in my phone so that my Snapchat will act 'normal'. If I would be at a party right now and take a video, it would be laggy as hell because its so dark and the phone wants to expose the picture which I don't want it to.

EDIT: Also, for users that own an S8. Try to use the wide angle selfie camera and the FPS drops/issues dissepear and the image looks identical (just wider). Curious why it's 'fixed' when using wide angle..

I was thinking the same thing. Got the S8+ Bogo deal at ATT and gave the standard size to my wife who is a iPhone user. Her whole world is emojis. She literally drove me nuts complaining about the emojis for a whole week. "I hate this phone the emojis the emojis!" I understand, but she is past it now once I showed her split screen multitasking. It was pretty funny. I am not an emoji person, I'm all about GIFs which GBoard does fantastically with Google messenger.

Welcome to Android, the crap that it is still known for. I have owned both, and iOS still kills it with refinement and how fluid everything works together. Android may be more "open", but it is definitely not refined.

You have to modify your phone for it to work properly, unlike the iPhone which just works.
