HD Voice on T-mobile HTC One

Wow just wow! Just got off the phone with my wife who also has an HTC One.
HD- Voice is super clear and clean and Loud! I thought my in call volume was all the way up . So I checked the volume, It was only half way up. I actually had to turn the volume down to about quarter volume. It was our first call to each other since we got the phone on Tuesday evening.
I thought it was a gimmick feature.
But I wrong wow...

Having come from a 3 year old Evo 4G that was rooted and over clocked etc.
The HTC One is like a Evo on steroids and then some.

Is this HD-voice same as VoLTE (voice over LTE) technology?

I know Verizon is working on this though didn't know it's already out.

I know both phones must have the hardware and/or software to hear in HD voice, and sounds as if this is it.

I'd like to know, if this is VoLTE, does it use much, if any data to accomplish the higher quality voice.

Voice over LTE is simply phone calls will be transmitted over the LTE network. However, being that it is LTE? I wouldn't be surprised HD - Voice will be right around the corner.

As for other carriers.?

I know the HTC Evo 4G LTE for sprint has this feature. However, the network
Doesn't yet support it yet?
Other than that only T-mobile is the only network with HD- voice at the moment

From the last material (vzw I believe) I remember reading on the topic of VoLTE, I remember they mentioned how it's a big battery eater.

Would you happen to know if this tech uses much data?

Reason I ask is, last year, Verizon changed their unlimited data plans to tiered data (allowances of 2gb,4gb etc), and at same time switched tiered voice plans to unlimited.
So my thoughts on this bring me to conclude that Verizon knows this is coming in soon, so they try to shift everyone they can off data so that, big red can make the extra buck on increasing data buckets, due to more use of VoLTE by consumers.

Consumers currently on unlimited voice and tiered data may think they are being offered an incentive here by being given unlimited voice, however if VoLTE ends up using lots of data, unlimited voice may then look useless.

I could be wrong, very wrong. I myself am no expert on this topic. I don't know how much data is used for VoLTE, nor do I know if at the same time it uses data if uses standard phone.

People who know more on VoLTE, are welcome to chime in.

remember, in order for you to experience HD-Voice? Both Phones have to be HD-Voice ready.
I do know the S3 has this feature along with HTC One, and I assume the S4 will have it also.

I would speculate that voice over LTE, would still be covered under you unlimited calling minutes.
I can't see while your plan states you have unlimited calling minutes they would charge it towards your data
even if your phone did connect via voice over LTE?

I just got off a chat with T-Mobile CSR. HD-Voice does use T-Mobiles 3/4G network for HD-Voice,
and not the 2G Edge networkfor regular calls.
If I call a phone that doesn't support HD Voice? it will use the 2G edge network.

HD-Voice calls does (NOT) come under your data plan and won't affect your data allotment if you have a tiered plan.
Also, say if you have a a 2GB data plan and you have gone over the limit and now your data will be throttled?
HD-Voice will still work as said above it won't fall under the DATA allotment in your data plan.

This is for T-Mobile though. Not sure how the other carriers will implement HD-Voice.
But I am pretty sure HD voice calling will fall under your call minutes. Because there is
no way to disable this feature when to HD voice compatible phones connect.

Good stuff Hawaii. I'd try and check with vzw myself, but since I don't think it's been implemented yet, they probably can't tell me for sure, though I think it will be parallel to what you said goes on with t-mo.
