headphones / aux cable disables mic

ive searched for a few hours and have noticed that this is a problem that other devices have as well....

for me this makes my car dock that i bought pointless....i saw there was a work around for the EVO that required bending a connector inside...id rather not do that for the TB but willing to try if last resort and if anyone knows how to

has there been any other work around for this?

the car dock instructions even tell you to plug audio cable in! i dont get it.....and this is only while making calls....the Voice search works fine

any help is very appreciated thanks guys...

Unfortunately, I am having this issue as well. It's very annoying considering I bought the car dock and cant use it for it. I hope this gets fixed soon...

The problem seems to be that when a call comes, if anything is connected to the headphone jack the phone assumes that its a headset sub a Mic and that's why the Mic on the phone stops working. Unless HTC believes this is a problem that needs their attention I would suggest taking the aux cable out when a call comes in and use the speakerphone.

wow that seems like an issue that should get resolved....

If you hit speaker phone while the aux is still plugged in to the headphone jack would that bypass this issue? Ill try it out later.. I had an aux jack installed so i can have Pandora playing in my car so I would like the to figure this out.

not sure...will try that later but still i want call coming through car speakers...

If you hit the speakerphone button, the sound no longer comes out of the car speakers. it goes right back to the phone, which defeats the purpose. Some ******ed Verizon rep tried telling me the cable was the problem. If that was the case, why would it have worked with my Droid X, but then not with this one? Those guys don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

I also ran into this problem. Lets try to get a fix if possible. Let me know where to complain and ill start spreading the word. We need a fix. I used to use hands free on my incredible all the time.

Read in another forum that you can put an inline mic adapter like this one in:

Dynex™ - Microphone Headset for Select Music Mobile Phones - DX-MP3MA

Have not tested yet though.

Menu-->Settings-->Call-->TTY mode-->TTY VCO

Thank you very much! I was ready to go back to my Droid X with the TB not having the ability to play calls through my car speaker system. Silly, but I spend alot of time in my car, listening to music, and was not happy about having to switch to answer calls. Yeah!!

Seems when you enable TTY VCO the voice volume is very loud and cannot be changed. HTC says its a issue they are aware of and working on...

just tried before worked for me fine...im not using headphone just aux right to my car so i can control volume

i did have a little interference noise for first call but i think it was the inline mic i was using (not attached) but i had the wires tied up by the car mount...took it off will report back

I sent an email to HTC, one, to see if they had any response and, two, so that they would know we have a problem and want a fix.
They told me:

"I can see your concern regarding the speaker and microphone volume you are experiencing. We are looking into some issues regarding volume and sound on the device, in particular it is possible that the device is using a noise cancelling algorithm to reduce background noise but is in fact cancelling out your voice as well. I know this is happening on the camcorder app, for instance. If you want to test if this is the cause you can cover up one of the two microphones on the device. If this is the cause of the issue it will be corrected in a software release over the air. See attachment for microphone locations.

If that turns out not to be the case, and also for the speaker sound you are noticing - I would take the device to a Verizon Store (not an authorized reseller) and compare it to another Thunderbolt to see if your device is behaving differently from others. If your device is not performing like others then you may wish to swap it out.

In regard to the aux cable muting the mic - if you get a three ring audio cable rather than a two ring cable the microphone will remain on when you are on a call. That would help in the meantime.

The auxiliary jack does matter, because when I first got my TB I could get phone calls through my car speakers and the caller could hear me. But when I bought the car dock, I switched to a longer aux in cable and now it doesn't work. This evening I will switch back to the other aux in cable to confirm and will report back.

had someone say they couldnt hear me today but i think it was their end but not sure

i keep the tty vco option on, yes. doesn't seem to cause any problems.

OK so I checked all my aux in cables and none of them worked. But the TTY VCO option worked so I'm sticking with that.
