Headset not supported

Today when I plugged in the headphones I've been using for months, a pop up menu appeared telling me, "Headset not supported"

Sometimes the message doesn't appear, but my phone goes haywire when I plug them in.. the volume reduces on it's own, the music player starts cycling thru songs and google voice opens. Other apps my have opened too, but it happened so fast I couldn't tell.

The headphones eventually work, but I have to plug 'em in and out a bunch of times.

I have two pairs of these headphones, Sennheiser MX365, and I get the pop up, and weird behavior, with both of them. I checked, and they use the CTIA standard.
I have a different pair that work fine, so the input jack is workings fine.

There's a post about this on the Sony forum, but most of the people are getting this pop up without any headphone attached. I just get it when I plug em in.
One of the suggestions was to delete then reinstall the Smart Connection app. I tried doing this, but it isn't in the app list, so I assume that means it isn't installed on my phone.

Has anyone run into this issue and found a fix? I tried a restart, but it didn't do any good.

You've already made sure the headphone jack is clear of any debris, correct? If there's even a small amount of debris that's causing the headphone plug to become slightly displaced, that might be enough to cause problems with one set of headphones (but not another, depending on how the plug's contacts are spaced).

Do the Sennheisers work normally in other devices?

Yep, I tried cleaning it.

Both pairs of these Sennheisers have worked fine on the Xperia since I bought em a few months ago. Ho haven't

I did find a temporary workaround last night by using an adapter. So the issue only occurs when I use the plug attached to the headphone wire.
