Helium backup app error

So I connected my phone (HTC Sensation xl) to the PC and I pick the apps I wanted to backup. When I press 'backup' it gives me this message..

"An error occured when performing your app backup. A log of the error has been sent to ClockworkMod".

I tried backing up on the internal storage and then Dropbox. None worked but I think it goes the same for anywhere else.

I want to restore my game progress onto my new Samsung galaxy s4 and Helium was suggested many times.

I also prefer no alternatives that involve rooting your phone.

I HAVE HAD THIS ERROR ABOUT 700 TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS!!

Finally figured it out... after your device is recognized by the pc, UN-FREAKING-PLUG IT from your computer. THEN do the backup

It works!! You just plug the USB cable out. Then you plug in again.:)

Thank you two! Unplugging and replugging worked for me too :)

Let me understand this correctly. I've gotten the Software installed on my home pc, installed the app on a Droid Razr Maxx. Both sides are completed and no errors when they matched. I unplug the USB from the Droid and try a back up, Nope Error.

So, What you all are saying is that I should have the Droid connected to the PC when I backup? How can I backup to the device when the USB is connected making the SD Card (Internal / External) mounted to the PC? Is there something I am missing on this?

Any thoughts?

I posted a step by step instructions over here that uses the direct download (web browser) method to backup apps, maybe you can give it a shot to see if it would help you?

To make it easily accessible by others, I will copy paste the steps here as well:

1- Restart your device (just in case), keep wifi on, run Helium, don't click 'OK' yet
2- Run Helium on your computer
3- Connect the USB cable to your phone, give it a few seconds
4- Click 'OK' on your device's screen (on the 'Welcome to Helium' message)
  • You should get the following message on your Android: "Android app backup enabled!" [Press OK]
  • Your Helium on the PC should show a green arrow

5- Click the hamburger menu on the app, select 'PC Download'
  • You should see a green on/off button, with a URL address displayed on port 5000

6- Unplug the USB cable [here's the weird part!]
7- Re-plug the USB cable, give it some time, maybe 20 seconds [the other weird part!]
8- Open your preferred browser on your PC (I used Chrome), type the address shown on your Android's screen, and give it some time to load all the apps. Now follow steps 9 to 12 on that page:

9- Select the apps you want to backup
10- Confirm 'Backup App Data Only' is unchecked
11- Click 'Start Backup'
  • Don't touch anything that's happening on your device's screen, it goes through a dialogue form on its own, probably a script
  • You'll also see a confirmation 'toast' saying "Backup starting..."

12- Once the backup is done you'll see a confirmation 'toast' saying "Backup finished", and the download should complete soon after
  • Confirm your apps are saved in the zip file by opening it

13- To do another backup, repeat steps 6-12

And that's one part done, the Backup part :)

I used it to backup an app from a Samsung Galaxy S2 (which was giving the same error), and restored it on a Samsung Galaxy S4. Worked well :)

Hi

I have troubles restoring my app data with Helium. I have successfully backuped my data, but when Im trying to restore it always stops around 3670000 bytes (with different percentage depending on app), it freezes and after couple of seconds Im receiving an restore error (Clockmod has received error log).

I made backup on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with android 4.4.2
I want to restore app data on Samsung Galaxy S7 with android 7.0

How can I restore my data?
Thanks in advance for help

Have many things i need back :S please help. First time user here

Summary: I wanted to transfer my app data from my Phone to my Tablet, but couldn't get my phone to backup to google drive, so I first backed up to internal storage, transfer carbon file from phone to tablet, then restored the app data from my tablet.

Alternative way without using google drive:
You will need a computer for transferring of files, Helium app on the devices (in my case, my Phone and Tablet)
I think the premium Helium app is needed to restore app data

1. On the phone, using the Helium app, follow the instruction, connect to computer, got a green tick etc.
Backup your app to internal storage

2. Connect the phone to the computer, locate the file named 'carbon'. There will be the backed up app data folder (eg. com.xxxxx), ensure that this folder is not empty. It will contain a nomedia File, a AB File and a Json File. (If you can't see these files on your computer, switch to MTP on your device.)

3. On the tablet, open helium app, connect to computer etc (step 1, without backing up to storage)
There will be a 'carbon' file in my Tablet storage. Replace the Tablet carbon file with the Phone carbon file.

4. To restore my data, open up Helium app on my Tablet. Under the restore and sync, click internal storage and restore the app data (of course you will need to download the app/game first) and voila, the app/game data is restored/transferred from the phone to the tablet.

I have the same problem. "An error occured when performing your app backup. A log of the error has been sent to ClockworkMod".
Meizu M2. I try i think everything, i spend like 5 hours and nothing is working correctly.

Uninstall Helium. Restart the phone. Reinstall Helium (directly from the Play store, don't use an old backup). If the phone isn't rooted, connect it to a PC so you can download and run the Windows program Helium will tell you to. Try backing up one app first (so you don't waste a lot of time) - they each back up separately, it's not one huge backup, so if one backs up, just don't back it up when you back up the rest.

(If it doesn't work, it could be a phone or Android version problem. I regularly back up [and restore] data from one app and Helium has never failed me - unless I try to back up data from the entire phone in one shot - it won't do that. [That's a definite bug, but it won't ever get fixed.] So just do 5 or 10 at a time - whatever you find works for you.)

I tried what was suggested, unplugged, plugged, replugged, made NO difference at all.
So I uninstalled and re-installed Helium and this time around, gave it all its requested permissions, some of which I had previously denied because there is NO way they should need them. But ... it worked. Devious sods!

Hopefully this can help others. My phone kept receiving the error after prompting me for using a password for my backups (because my phone is "encrypted"). After lots of trial and error (and the plug in out in method not working), I found that the backups would complete properly if I used my device pin as the password.
So I guess it was really asking permission to write to the device, and needed me to grant/unlock in order to complete? *shrug*

Oddly, it would try to automatically put in characters when the box for putting in a password popped up. I realized that the first batch of characters that came up quickly were actually my pin numbers, then what I can only assume was 3 attempts to use the 'enter' button as a way to complete the autofill process. Except that it uses the enter button as an additional character. So after backspacing away all the autofilled characters, I put in my pin and it worked fine. Seems like there may be some attempts from the devs to have some helpful programming included, but it falls a bit short.
