Helix Launcher

The only lag I am seeing is in the 3-D app drawer. Sometimes it just sits there for about ten seconds, then I am able to scroll through my apps. Other than that (and I don't use the 3-D drawer for much other than to set up my home screens), it's running very well.

So far, so good for me. I have had one force close, but no more. Occasionally, it will mess up the app title alignment in the app drawer and I have had one time where it refused to draw the Widgets and icons on the home screens. Going to the HL2 configuration screen and clicking Restart Launcher fixes it, though. Nothing has been bad enough to make it unusable. It has been working just fine with all of the live wallpapers I've tried, too.

For those who installed it from the website before, even though the version number is the same on the Marketplace variant (0.7), they are different. For example, the website d/l variant had the app drawer icon on the right and did not have the "Notification" button in the home menu. The Marketplace variant has the app drawer in the middle and the notification menu button is back.

Make sure to remove each widget from your old launcher before putting them on to the new one. Some Widgets get grumpy when you have them placed on homescreens of more than one launcher at the same time. That can sometimes cause f/c's, it seems.

The only thing ive noticed while playing with it for the last hour or so is that when im in an app and go back to the home screen it will take a second or two for the icons to load up.

Yes, I am seeing this, too. It is sometimes for more than 2 seconds, though...more like 10 seconds. I don't know if I like it that much...but the 3D launcher is so very cool! haha

Wow on my droid this works so much faster than the HL1, dramatic difference! +1 HL2. Im on stock 2.1

But the HL2 is thumbs up nonetheless. Maybe a bug tweak here & there will solve the home screen hesitation.

I must remember to donate to the author.

remove 1. then install 2
I installed 2 with 1 still on the Droid, removed all the icons from 1, installed them on 2, made sure 2 was working, and only then did I uninstall 1. Haven't had any problems other than the 3-D app launcher lag i mentioned above.

Hopefully this is corrected in future updates. It's kind of annoying waiting for the icons to show up.

Helix launcher is force closing, making it so I can't use my phone!

So I'm on stock 2.1 on my Droid. I installed helix launcher and everything was fine. I decided to go down to 3 screens. I changed the screen number and restarted helix. Now my phone is stuck in a loop of helix force closing and immediately reloading only to force close again.

How can I get helix to stop being the default launcher without being able to run any apps? :(

eh, i gave helix another shot but it was too unstable for my liking. went back to clockworkmod launcher; basically the same features as helix sans the bottom dock and no names on icons, but it runs a lot better IMO

as far as not making it default, try from the main screen if you can get there menu>settings>applications>manage applications and then select helix and hit the "clear defaults" button

i recently dumped helix too. i miss the 5 screens i had, but it was fc'ing all the time. i might try this clockworkmod one tho. i see its$3, so i hope within a day i can decide if i want to keep it or not.

The main reason I wanted helix was for the dedicated slots at the bottom, so I don't have to be on a specific homescreen to launch the phone or messaging app.

Meanwhile I got passed my issue. Apparently in between FCs, you can hit the search button and launch the settings app that way.

I believe you are supposed to clear everything off your screens (shortcuts and widgets) before changing the number of screens used.

I have been using Helixlauncher since mid March. It force closed on me a couple times early on, but every since it has been perfect.

Helix launcher

When you download this it saids "Services that may cost you money" Does anyone know what this is?

just means the program can make a phone call (like when you create a direct dial short cut on your homescreen) that uses your minutes. nothing to be worried about for Helix. i have it and love it. It is very stable and just works.
