help alowed update while rooted

like a idiot i woke up and my phone asked me if i wanted to update and i clicked yes. I was rooted with the z4 root and didnt think about it until it started the update.. The update went thru i am able to use my phone but when i tried to use a app that requests root acess i dont have it. I tried going into the z4 app to unroot or reroot and it forces closed. My phone has the super user app still so i went into stock recovery and tried to wipe my phone to stock. I was able to do that but when i finally got my phone up and installed the sprint id to be able to acess my apps the super user file is still there. Cant root cant unroot what do i do? Figure i would ask the pros before i jack my phone up even more.

If you want to root in your situation, you'll need to revert to V9 first.

If you want root with the VC firmware, you must get that update using the LG Software Updater tool. If you get the update via OTA, it will kill your ability to root. Also z4 won't work with VC regardless of how you update. You'll need to do the manual root method in the sticky. If that is too much effort, you can just stick with the reverted V9 and use z4 again.

For my part, if you ask questions, I usually revise the instructions to make things clearer.

It is a lot of work to write idiot's level guides from scratch, but it is less work if we make incremental revisions to address questions that arise.

So if you ask some questions I think that is the best way to move forward.

That guide won't work because OP accepted the OTA VC update.

Actually even if he did the VC update using LG Software Updater, that guide is out of date because the root procedure changed in VC.

I myself am like you and don't get much of what is being talked about. I knew I had to use ADB to root the VC update so I did a quick google search of something like "Install ADB". Through the search I found a youtube video showing how to set up adb. From there I was able to follow every tut I wanted to with no problems. Hope it helps you too. thanks for the help sorry took me so long to respond. I will try the you tube idea and see whats i can get going, and if that dosent work a guy at my local sprint store said to bring it in and he would reset it to factory and get rid of the root for me. I appreciate all the work you guys put into this and the help you lend to people like me.

If your hesitation is "adb", then the revert procedure to V9 actually doesn't use adb at all. After you revert to V9, you can use z4 again to root and delete the files in question.

The part of the revert instructions that refers to the "How to unroot" thread (and thus adb) is only necessary if you want to set up your phone so it has the VC update and is still rootable.

If you just want to delete stuff you left behind from rooting, just reverting to V9 and using z4 is enough.

It's up to you how much effort you want to put into it. I'm sure Sprint techs have the same or similar tools to flash factory setups onto your phone.

Ok I tried to revert following the directions step by step and the upgrade program got to the second part and told me to contact lg that this upgrade has been disabled what n now

Haven't seen that error before. Could you provide more details? Which step were you at and was there an error log you could post?

Ok at this point can i just proceed to try and root my phone or do i have to revert? I just dont understand why the superuser icon is there even if i lost my root privlages. Is the vc kernel on my phone damaged or should it be fine and i just root and go on my way?

You have to revert to get root.

The OTA VC update disabled the setuid permission on the "su" executable so it is no longer able to give you root permissions.

The reason you still see the SuperUser icon is the companion app is still installed. That app doesn't have power by itself to give you root privileges. It is just a database of which apps do/don't get root privileges. The actual "root" is handled by the "su" executable.

Since the "su" executable no longer has setuid root permission, you cannot get root anymore. When you try and run rageagainstthecage, it no longer works under the OTA VC updated environment so you cannot reset the permissions for "su"

This is a different error than others were seeing.

You might have a permission problem or c: might be out of space.

First, verify you have 600MB free on drive C

If so, instead of running KP500-Utils-EN.exe from the command prompt, try right clicking on it in windows folder view and "Run as administrator"

I don't have a Vista/Win7 box lying around right now so I can't tell you exactly what to do. Vista/Win7 do like to protect folders more than WinXP ever did, but sometimes this leads to hard to decipher errors.

Root after vc update...easy

I did the update with my computer,i lost root,went crazy then i rebooted into custom recovery and did a nand recovery and surprise,i got root again with a weird thing that i dont understand.on Baseband version it says LS670MV9_6040
and in SW Version it says LS670ZVC ,and is naggin me about the update again.phone is perfect everything works and am on root....with thundeROM...i mean it was painless...
