Help. Battery settings for my watch...slightly different use

My kid has the 3g version and we use it to make sure he gets on the bus after school and makes it to activities. It's strapped into his backpack and not used at all during the day. It just sits in his cubbie. Yesterday it was at 2% at 4pm and today it was dead. Both days started at 100%. I don't have the screen on or the wake up gesture on. It's just sitting in his pack. What could be happening? Bad signal? Some setting I haven't changed? Any advice? Thanks

OK. Turned off mobile data...don't need that for voice and text. Turned off Bluetooth and NFC. That should help a lot.
